Granted, prices will be best guestamat at the time of the post.

Me,
Changing platforms with trying to keep the same level of performance would cost near $1000. About the only thing I can do is update to the fastest processor my board will support, a 4800. So I'm hoping for an un-announced 4800 price reduction to the $400-$500, at least. But I may end up spending the $600+ and sittin out of the race for a couple years.

AFAIK my friend the 4800+ will be discontinued, as all 2x1mb cache processors are from AMD. I'll be selling my 4400+ though for a very good deal (probably sub 200) so keep that in mind (I'm going to go conroe)

My AM2 rig for college:

AMD A64 3000+ (100-ish)
Asus M2R32-MVP Deluxe (100? No clue yet, heh)
Ballistix 2x1GB DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 (285)
Acer 19" WS 8ms (182)
Sapphire X1900XT (325)
Creative SB Audigy4 (72)
ATI Theater 650 TV Tuner (100?)
Seagate 320GB 7200.10 (perpendicular recording!) (110)
LITE-ON CD Burner and DVD Burner (60 for both)
Rosewill 550W PSU w/ modular cabling (80)
Aspire Explorer Black w/ Blue LED Case (60)

Including other knick-knacks and random small things to make it awesome, I expect it to run me ~$2000.

Things that I've already purchased are bold.
