What's your ideal racing game?

I await the day where I there is the most realistic - yet fun - racing game ever. It would be with street cars, like Gran Turismo.

First of all it would require a GF2U and run beautifully and make use of the DX8 features on the GF3 wth a 1.33 GHz Tbird. Assuming the designers are halfway decent that would mean beautiful graphics.

It would have street cars - M3, M5, Prelude, NSX...and a realistic dash for every car, with behavior similar to the real car. So when I'm driving a Prelude, I can bring it to 5,000 RPM, hear the VTEC kick in, and "feel" the newfound torque until I shift at 8,000. The sounds would have to match the engine.

But I want real controls, too. I want to have a five or six speed manual and a steering wheel, with petals - including a clutch. I would want Force Feedback on the clutch and the wheel, that would be so badass.

I'm so sick of playing racing games in arcades that give you only a 4 speed and no clutch. It annoys me...

So how far off is this do you think?

I would like to see the same thing. I would also like to add that when you run into something there should be damage.

I would love to see a racing game with an accurately modeled clutch. I think RS or somebody makes a shifter, but it is very poorly supported by games. I remember an old Atari arcade game ?Driver, that had force feedback, a clutch, and terrible graphics. It sure would be nice to see some of these ideas incorporated into some new racing sims.

Act-labs has it all pretty much covered. They thought about putting hydraulics in the pedals and clutch but it would have been too expensive.
The shifter is supported by 20+ games.

haha...I have had the FF wheel from them which is awesome. I've been waiting to get some extra cash to get the shifter and clutch:)

Thanks for the info and the link. I am currently using a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 and an old set of CH pedals, and I am seriously thinking of upgraing to teh full RS system. I saw a lot more support for the shifter than I realized, but I am still fuzzy on what games support the clutch.

Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed is probably the best racing game I've played in awhile. It has just the right mix of realism and fun. My only major gripe with this game and many others is that you can't die. I can't think of a single racing game where when hit the wall at 160+ mph your car disintigrates and you become pink spot on said wall. This should at least be an option.

I checked that link and that IS some cool gear. But why is the shifter only a five speed? I can think of many games and cars that have 6.

The default shifter is a seven speed, with plates for four and five speeds.

Hey check out the July PC Gamer mag for "World Sports Car." Sounds like it could be pretty cool. It's supposed to have a super duper physics model, like a bazillion cars of all types from F1 to street cars, PLUS super duper cool graphics! Could be good?

Edit> Actually that would be the June issue.
