Ive heard that having the HDs on different channels can help speed when transfering files to and from? True?

Would it help the speed of transfering large files if i had one HD and one CD on each channel? Or would it only make a difference with large files and not general usage?

I dont intend activating the RAID controller so everything is on its own channel cos i can`t be arsed messing with drivers in windows. So what i`ll probably do, depending on if my new mobo that i`ll be getting in Feb comes with enough channels for each drive to have its own channel, then i`ll do it then.

So then, what are your setups?

Primary IDE Master: Seagate 120GB
Secondary IDE Master: Lite-On DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
c:\ Windows XP Pro, business files and utilities - 10GB
d:\ Games, music, general data storage - 110GB (rounding off)

I have other machines, but I don't recall the setups at the moment. This is the one I did most recently.

IDE0 200GB C: (OS, Apps, MP3's) & DVD-ROM
IDE1 CD-R
note the CD-R is on different line than my 200 for faster ripping + burning performance

Adaptec Card
IDE0 80GB RAID0
IDE1 80GB RAID0
these show as 120GB D: (Video only)

Network Drives (gigabit direct connect 🙂 )
X: (kazaa download) 30 GB
Y: (Back up) 60GB
Z: (My documents and pics)12GB 2meg 5400

for performance Promise reccomends you put your OS on a non Raid Drive and your page file on raid0 (though my PF is still on IDE 🙂 )
also they say no partions on your RAID0

I would reccomend keeping any paired drives on seperate cables. this can be extended to optical drives too. (ie: if you have a DVD-ROM and DVD-R keep them on seperate lines for optimal performance) I like to keep my CD-R seperate from the HDD i burn from/rip to.
keep this in mind if your gonna be doing alot of teransfers (Ie: from downloads to storage)

I keep all video on raid for optimal playback.

(all drives are 8meg 7200 unless noted otherwise)
I have a few more drives on the network, but they just hold OS's and apps for my other rigs
