Since I consider myself largely a political no0b, with strong opinions only on a few things, I read a lot here to learn (which can be difficult with both sides arguing with unsubstantiated accusals all the time) and sometimes I start threads, like this one, to get a reading on the personalities behind the posters. I don't like to argue so much because it just gets me frustrated to no purpose.

I don't like to argue either, it's largely unproductive and brings out the worst in people who are going to disagree no matter what.

I hope to bring some reason to the forum, my threads try to stimulate a new way to look at the same old issues. If I can help others see the other side of things, as well as expose myself to other types or reasoning, this is what will keep me coming back to P&N. I think I have a unique perspective being from the outside looking in, P&N is largely american and I am not exposed to the partisan bickering which normally occurs there. Typically issues affect people globally and nationality usually has no impact when it comes to discussions, I have had little problems relating to many people on this forum.

Everyone's political point of view is different, and P&N has a broad range of views, especially compared to my own country where people are very similar in their views.

There's definitely a difference between debating and arguing; though ATPN unfortunately consists of the last one.

I am only on here to keep track of major news issues, get a feel of how the rest of the world feels. We've got a couple individuals who have been overseas and don't live in the states; it's nice to hear their opinions regarding issues even if you don't agree with them. Not to mention there are a lot of members that are very educated and they're a big reason why I keep coming back to the forum. Finally, I can improve my own skills debating various idiots on the forum. ;)

You'd rather have P&N be about arguing than debating?

I like discussion/debate that leads to changing minds. Sometimes mine, sometimes Other's. Though that's not always possible as some issues have no correct or sole solution, but a healthy Democracy needs exchange of Ideas. As such it is our responsibility to engage Ideas and to support those Ideas that are in our best interest("best" does not =selfish).

To watch the pulse of the people who post - to try to educate those who don't know, that DO want to learn something from
those who may have actually experienced something and can pass that knowledge to those who seek enlightenment.

Then there's the urge to silence those who are pig-headed and racist.

Look, a day is 24 hours long, and I sleep 8 of those hours. What can I do for the remaining 16 hours?

I like to post articles that are not nrmally covered on the usa news media.....since it seems a lot of the readers here consider the usa media to be the sole authority of whats fair and balanced news! ;)

No 'goal', just a policy wonk's passion for the forces and tides that define the socio-political matrix that undergirds and constrains every damn aspect of our lives, whether we realize it or not. Rugged individualism is a myth in these modern times, and a dangerously corroded one at that.

I laugh at the kiddies and the psychologically stunted adults who deny their own primitive fear and think the posession of firearms is their fundamental protection against the gummint. They live in a dangerously deluded and fetishistic armed camp whose false god and savior is the cold, obscene metallic machinery of personally held death.

Political plurality - our famous checks and balances now under concentrated attack by the radical right, accountability, transparency, continual education, and some true, 'liberal' ethos of the inclusion of ALL of us - are our strongest tools.

To those 2nd amendment nut cases I say, come back to me when the gummint allows you to have cruise missles and fighter jets and we'll talk.

But the bitter irony is that none of us, including myself, 'talk' much here. We just pronounce our pre-conceived ideas past each other. We don't even speak the same language, nor do we seem to even live in the same world.

So I have grown tired and cynical, and just snipe from the sidelines. It's like stomping on roaches in the midst of a forest fire, "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing".

I want to be the first kid on my block with a confirmed conversion.

Seriously I don't really have one. Anyone who thinks their opinion truly matters to anyone else here is fooling themselves.

in hope of finding thinking people like yourself :) broadening my perspective, understanding the why, go under the surface of the problem

Please take your last ten P&N posts, quote them and for each show how you furthered your stated goals. Who knows, it might be enlightening for you as well as us.

I took it by posting she meant also reading, and thats more why I read. My posts have little to do with that since after so long the point of posting and affecting how other people think is futile at best. People here very very seldom change and if they do its not because someone else here wrote but because of influences outside of this forum.

Read my previous post first . . . you know . . . the one devoid of false piety . . . the one that begins: "[I have] No 'goal' . . ." ;)

But you do post, so answer the title question, "What's your goal in posting in P&N?"
