Paying $4.30 a gallon in San Antonio right now. Was funny a few weeks ago when every single gas station had a $3.99 and 9/10 of a cent price for a few days and then as soon as one went over they all went to $4.20 a gallon. They wanted to keep that 4 off the first digit as long as possible and then jumped big once they wouldn't. Knew we'd never see $4.06 gas lol.

I just saw another station that had diesel at 6.99

That Standard station is now 6.59/gal for reg.

MIL kept insisting on giving her gas money every month till it was just easier to accept it. We buy her stuff sometimes and just say it was a two for one deal. Parents

I’m definitely feeling smug as fuck every time I drive by the gas station near my house. They were at $4.999 yesterday, and I’m sure other stations in town are higher. I sold my last ICE vehicle last week and am now 100% BEV, hence the smugness. I spent nearly $4400 on gasoline in 2019, less than $1300 total throughout 2020-21, and I think it’s very likely the $145 so far in 2022 will be the last money I ever spend on gasoline for a personal vehicle.

This is second in satisfaction perhaps only to the time a heating oil salesman showed up on my doorstep shortly after my house purchase while I had a geothermal installer in the house.

I hope EV prices come down at some point as I can't justify it even with gas prices, but everything I read says they're going up. Companies are already running out of minerals, not a good sign early in the industry. Hopefully they find a solution such as a new battery tech.

There are new EVs available that can be had for less than half of the average new car transaction price if you live in the right state and make sufficiently little.

How much cheaper do you want them to be? They’re capable of being cash flow positive for many people with long commutes today, and eventually they will be cheap used cars. It may take a while with gas prices this high, but it will happen.

That's the issue, you have to buy very far away to have a chance at any kind of decent deal. That's a big hassle having to have it shipped out etc. I can just buy a used gas car for way cheaper here without having to buy out of country. Paid 14k for my F150.

I think what would help fill this gap is if some companies would also offer EV conversion kits. Ford does have an EV crate motor, so it is a start. At some point I do want to get a smaller car and then make the F150 a project truck to convert it.
