1997 Beaulieu Tapestry

If you want a really good $30 wine, this is it. It's very complex as you drink it - your lips, mouth and throat will each taste a different flavor. I advised my friend to buy it for his friend's housewarming party and they loved it.

doesn't really matter what year, but 1997 was very good. I think bevmo.com is selling the 2000 vintage now.

Those who like German whites might want to check out the '03 vintage. It's rated consistently high and drinkable, and you can likely get some good deals. This '03 vintage report came out fairly recently, and there's been some fanfare among dealers about the '03, so try some!

I went here with the GF over Labor Day and we visited this vineyard called Three Sisters Vineyard . They had a type of wine I had never heard before called Cynthiana. That is not the name of the wine, but the type. Here is a link for more information.

We went to a tasting and the guide told us that the wine went well with chocalates. He gave us both Hershey Kisses and indeed it made quite a difference in the taste of the wine.

It is a red and smells great

The best wine I have had in a while is a 1997 Turning Leaf Cabernet Suavignon. It has to be the 1997. I've tried other vintage years of this wine and they don't even come close to the 1997 vintage.

My favorite has to be a Liberal after losing the election.

I am just kidding, too many people with their panties in a wad here lately 😀 😀 😀 😀

Mmmm, homemade blackberry wine. 🙂

Is that good? My guy's boss makes that but hasn't bottled his yet this year.

All my homemade fruit wines are good (well, to me at least). Like condensing the fruit's flavor with a fairly potent alcoholic kick. Kiwi, raspberry, blackberry, peach, and berry blends are the best ones I've made. Prickly pear fruit wine tastes medicinal (not great.)

Wow, someone is quite the wine connoisseur 😛

Received a bottle of Turning Leaf Cabernet Sauvignon as an anniversary gift (believe it was an earlier year, however. perhaps a '95?). Words truly cannot describe how awful it was. My then-wife and I jokingly dubbed it, "Turn and Leave".

Have since tried other Turning Leaf products, and found them not nearly as awful as that original bottle.

I'm off my arthritis meds for a little while I switch doctors, and I'm taking advantage of the time off to try a few different wines. Since I grew up in one of the top three wine counties of CA (Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino), I've always wanted to develop a taste for good wines.

The count so far:
2001 Kendall-Jackson Cabernet. I liked it alright but it didn't grab my attention in a way that I'd want to get it again anytime too soon.
Fetzer Gewürztraminer. Nice sweet wine, and it comes out of a winery right down the road from my old house. 🙂

I picked up a good Columbia Valley 2001 Merlot but I haven't opened it yet. Anybody have any particular favorites? Who here is a wine fanatic?

any idea how much Fetzer Gewürztraminer costs a bottle???

Oh, I've had BV red wine a couple times. I don't remember which ones, but they were good. I don't remember it being that expensive though.

It's relatively inexpensive: ~$10/bottle.

At this very moment I'm drinking an '03 Chianti by Da Vinci. It's a pretty inexpensive, widely available, and very good Chianti, imo. It's Sangiovese, Merlot, and a little Syrah. The Sangiovese really stands out, but I can't detect the Syrah at all; I can get just a little bit of the Merlot. It smells like strawberry and plum with the slightest bit of vanilla, and it has somewhat of a buttery finish. It's good...

A couple of good wines I had recently:

2000 Bargetto Cabernet Sauvignon about $15
2001 BV Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon about $10

Also Yellow Tail cabs are great. Nicely priced at Trader Joes.
And for people who like wine clubs Viansa has some really good wines. Only available at the winery or online. Not sold in stores. I recommend the Ossidiana, the Piccolo, and a favorite of mine the Prindelo.
If you live in the bay area and you have to visit the winery. Its one the nicest. Right off Highway 121. Great place to have lunch. Bring the food and buy a bottle.

My favorite types wine is a Meritage. Many wineries make these but I like the 2000 Estancia Meritage. Its easy to find and goes on sale for under $30 sometimes.

Its all about the reds. Don't waste your time or money on whites.

Since you're in Seattle, you might try Chateau Ste. Michelle's stuff, for an inexpensive wine from a local winery most of it's great. My company does all of the fulfillment for their "Wine of the Month club" and I've tried quite a variety of them.

Actually, just head over to Trader Joe's (there's one in Federal Way, take the 320th off the 5) and their employees are all trained in helping people select wines, and at any given time they seem to have something special, a lot of it is local or exclusive to them as well.

That kind of snobbery isn't very instructive, and you've insulted most of the winemaking countries which produce fantastic whites. If you are going to offer such a statement, then you should at least explain why.

3 Reasons why are reds better than whites:

1. tannins - helps give reds a more complex taste than whites
2. red meat and red wines go hand in hand. There is nothing better than a meal with red meat.
3. Red almost always age better than whites. Hence, you can have a much better collection of reds

Don't get me wrong. I do drink some whites too. I just don't like my wine to be so sweet. White are mostly sweet. If you perfer whites may I recommend my favorite white, Franciscan Chardonnay Cuvee Savage 2001 Napa Valley. Has a great oak taste. Franciscan is a great maker of wine. They also make an awesome red called Magnificat. Its a Napa Valley Meritage (as mentioned in my previous post, my favorite type). It consists of 73% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec.
