guess this for Windows users since I don't what options exist for non-windows systems...

this would be for non-picture folders as one would assume that the thumbnail view would be used for those...

It depends...for folders without a lot of files, I usually use Tiles...for folders with lots of files (like my Download folder) I use Details...then for My Pictures and such, I use Thumbnails.

How am I supposed to vote? :p

Good point...

Since one would assume thumbnails for picture folders, this should be for non-picture folders...will update the OP...

I even use list for my pictures folders. Takes too long to load thumbnails for 500 pictures.

First thing I do with any new XP system I work on is the above plus:
Show status bar
Use Windows classic folders
Do not hide file extensions
Show system files
Show hidden files and folders
And most importantly turn off that annoying navigation click sound

details, always details. I like to see as many files as possible and also their modified date/time is useful info.

I can't answer as each directory is setup differently

Film strip for pics.
List for Music
Thumbnails for films
Detail for root drives

You keep 500 pictures all in 1 folder? How the hell do you ever find what you're looking for?

List.

Pics are thumbnails.

Details is just a pain and a waste of space. If I want to see the details I'll hover my curser over the file. Besides, with all file extentions showing, Details is superfluous.

With List, I can view more files at once.
