I always liked the Chrono Trigger soundtrack.

hmm.. Final Fantasy 2 soundtrack was good too.

chrono trigger ftw!

As far as melodies go, I have yet to hear anything that rivals Chrono Trigger. :)
As far as thumping techno, definitely Unreal Tournament 2004. And also Half Life 1 and 2 deserve honorable mentions.

Anyone heard of Rika Marinuka, she made some tracks for the Metal Gear Solid soundtracks, this one song from MGS3, when you've completed the game and Snake is with Eva infront of the fire is really gd music. Think its called "Don't Be Afraid"

Lets see.... going back many years here: the original Lemmings had a great fun soundtrack, Wing Commander II had a great soundtrack, and I have to say Bejeweled has a very good sountrack.

The best songs were probably Tyrano Lair, Boss Battle 1, Magus' Theme, Robo's Theme, Frog's Theme and maybe Battle with Magus. There were some nice soft themes like Schala's Theme.

Xenogears, FF7.

Granado Espada's music is really good for a MMO when I was trying the beta.. really kept me awake.

Too bad Granado Espada has such bad controls... Point-n-Click movement should've went away with Diablo II.

Honorable mention: Beyond Good and Evil

Had some great music, and the publisher made the soundtrack freely available online (mirror is here for anyone that wants to dl it: http://www.stormeffect.com/beyond/index.htm. I particularly like the intro song and "propaganda". The game is fantastic too, though I only got to play a little bit when I had trial of GameTap.
