I made gumbo the other day and it's pretty f'ing good  diced chicken and chorizo with the perfect amount of heat (via cayenne pepper and hot sauce). ordinarily I'd have preferred seafood over chicken, but I've got a friend with major fish allergies (and it's easier to find a pound of chicken breasts and a pound of chicken thighs).

I just bought a new crockpot and want to get into making soups this fall :)

all kinds of stew are awful

Best soup ever is tomato w/ grilled cheese or chicken noodle

pho.

but truth be told any noodle soup with lots of noodles and beef is pretty much perfect in my book.

I like a good potato soup.

edit: I might have added some okra and andouille sausage to your gumbo recipe...

Beef stew with lots of potatoes, onions and carrots in a thick broth with wine, stock and lots of spices.

As for soups:

New England and Rhode Island clam chowder
French Onion
Pasta e Fagioli

pork belly and bean

yum.

GF has been making pickle soup recently. ...sounds rather awful, but it's actually quite good. potatoes, navy/pinto beans, barley, shredded pickles, all in a pork hock broth.

it actually works.

I make a mean beef stew.

I also like a Quebec style bean with ham soup.
