I've got a taste for steak tonight. We have a few steakhouses around here, and I was curious what your favorite chain is.

I like Outback for a lower scale chain, its pretty good. Lone Star, is ok, but I prefer Outback.
Now, I've never been to a Logan's Roadhouse, or a Longhorn, but I'm thinking of trying one of these tonight.

Now on the upper end, we have a Capitol Grille, Morton's, Shula's, Ruth's Chris, the Palm and a few other upper end steak houses, but I'm not spending that much tonight. Ruth's Chris was really good, but I still haven't been to Shula's or the Palm yet, so i reserve comment.

Anyone else?

BTW i live in Northern Virginia, just outside of DC.

not that you have to be here to comment. :)

In this area, outback I guess - but I usually get chicken or seafood.

I was recently visiting family in Iowa and did my best to have as much beef as I could while there, but that was almost all on the grill at home.

Because I have an expense account with work, I prefer high class steak houses like Chophouse, Ruth's Chris, Mortons, Peter Lugers. Typically, for one person a meal with a drink will run you about $70. If I didn't have an expense account, I'd probably opt for the cheaper Outback steak, but the difference in quality is night and day.

Outback? Might as well salt your shoes and chow down.
The best around, by far, is my backyard grill.

How can you pass that off as a business expense?

People who work on Wall St. expense their food all the time - Peter Luger, one of the finer steakhouses in NYC, is close to the financial district and I know many people order dinner from there when they're working late

Huh? I expense everything on the road. Hotels, rental cars, meals, drycleaning, cellphone bill, - everthing!

$70 meal just seemed ridiculous to me. Guess not. ;)

It's about right for a meal at a decent steakhouse in NYC or Chicago. Places like Mortons, the Chophouse and Ruth's Chris are ala carte. You order your steak, then you order your veggies seperately. The steak alone can cost you close to $40. Once you a add a couple sides and a beverage, you're easily over $70 with tax and tip.

Ruth's Chris has a "Cowboy Ribeye" which is a bone in prime rib cut, which is slow cooked and then grilled like a steak to give it a firm crisp crust. The steak alone runs about $35. I recommend it. It's incredible. The thing is, I work for a Canadian company, thus once the USD exchange rate is calculated in, that $70 steak dinner is really about $90 CDN! And that's just for one person.

I just ate there for the first time recently, and it was awesome. Their rolls.. oh man.

Oooh, didn't see this one. They have a location about 10 miles from me, I'll have to chalk this one up to try. Maybe tonight... :) thanks

How about Houstons? I think their filet is a really good deal.... around $25 for the filet and a side, and the filet is pretty decent quality

Houston's, I see one in Rockville, MD which isn't too far. In fact i work up there. I was looking for a menu, but is this on the upper scale, ala carte type steakhouse? I'll have to mark it up, for later if it is.

Morton's is amazing, but I only go once a year at most for my mom's birthday. Aside from the food being good, I like the atmosphere and how they roll out the cart and give you the menu verbally.
