Can't decide, there's this stupid yEnc thing... Tried a bunch of them and they all seem to suck...

Newsbin is the best... especially the latest version. Makes snagging files so effortless.

Agent's pretty good for just reading, but its interface needs a major overhaul (it was the exact same look back in 1995).

Google groups is only good because it's got archives from back in the day.

I like NEwsbin, except for a few things... The major one is that I'd download headers and close the program. When I reopen the program, most of those headers are gone, and I have no clue how it happened. And I know it has nothing to do with the four filter checkboxes near the top... I believe I'm using the beta released June 2nd...

Also, thumbnail quality sucks and I can't invoke my favorite image viewer, and last of all, the groups listing doesn't show number of headers or last accessed...

Are these the same for you?

I dunno... I'm using the latest beta (June 2 sounds right). I always have the program open though so I can't confirm what you're saying (and I'm in the middle of downloading right now), but I'll check it out when the queue is done.

I don't download many images (pr0n?) so I don't have much to say about the thumbnail quality. But yeah, the thumbnails are small so the quality of the image is going to go way down. What's your favorite image viewer, and why can't you invoke it?

I do agree with your last point... that would be helpful info to have in columns in the group listing. They have forums on their site, maybe you could suggest it there... wouldn't be hard for them to implement at all.

I use ACDsee - and I could, but it takes like a few steps from the header listing that its cumbersome...

Try it and let me know if it happens to you.

I don't read or watch the news I wait for current events to filter into OT... I'm not very well informed but it keeps my anxiety level down :)

OE? Old English 900? Here's to ya! :D

Agent is just sold old. It's kinda slow too. Newsbin sucks when it has to refresh all it's headers but it's definately great for grabbing binaries.

Feh, I dig Agent's interface. They've got it dowwn perfectly: Groups in one frame, messages in another and message bodies in the 3rd. Also, you can resize, reorient them how you like and save the layout. It's the best for actually reading posts, and its interface for getting marked messages works great. The only rub is that it doesn't get with more than one simultaneous connection.

Other than Agent for straight binaries I'd have to pick GrabIT. It's simple, fast, works, supports yenc and free.

I'm too used to Outlook Express's interface to switch. I first started hitting newsgroups in 96 and it was with OE, so I've just gotten used to it. I'm sure there are better newsreaders out there, but every time I try them I can't get used to the interface, they always seem so unintuitive and convoluted to me. Plus, I have this little program called yProxy that lets Outlook Express display yEnc encoded messages, so that's not even a problem for me anymore.
