mellondust: if you throw that in you can definately make a case for the opening to Lord of the Rings too. Man that really got me into the movie (and i had never read or cared for the books at all before the movie)

<< HEAT after the rob the bank
Army Of Darkness - when the dedites storm the castle
Crouching Tiger - the crtazy weapons part
Terminatror 2 - Arnold with the chain gun.
Gladiator - opening
Street Fighter the anime- fight between Vega and Chung Li
DragonGall Z - Fight between Goku and Majin Vegita

Excellent choice!
One of the best gunfights in any action movie. The way the just open fire and move down a couple city blocks is just insane.

No one listed The Matrix?

I like the lobby scene.....there's also some good one on one battles in there too.

I like most everything mentioned so far, but one that's missing is Last of the Mohicans. When the runners are hauling azz in a straight line and Daniel Day-Lewis is back on the wall sniping out everyone that gets in front of them...HOLY SHYTTE! Some of the other fights were nice too.

When I read the title I knew someone would drag in an SW movie...
Ah well, you'll always have people with no taste.

Highlander 🙂

Of course--how can I forget Braveheart and Starship Troopers. Very different movies, but entertaining in their own ways. I love space battles!

Wrath of Khan duel between USS Reliant and USS Enterprise.

How about the final battle in Kurosawa's Seven Samurais?

1YP

The final battle in 'Glory' with Denzel Washington, Matthew Broderick and Morgan Freeman. They pretty much knew it was a suicide charge but they kept on going and when they reached the crest and were blown to bits by cannons at point blank range....inspiring.

Did anyone else that saw Heat wish that DeNiro got away?

And The Patriot also had a pretty good battle at the end.

i dont rank the heat scene among the great battle sequences...but it was done in a very stylish way....

i cannot believe that some guys are mention those artificial cheesy fights from the rocky series.

Gladiator - Opening Battle
Saving Private Ryan - Omaha Beach

And don't forget the Lobby Scene in The Matrix! 😀

Sci-Fi choices:
1. Although it may seem antiquated now, the final battle in "Star Wars" really left an impression on me at the time (OK so I was seven then)!
2. The Battle of Hoth was incredible too.
3. What...NO ONE has mentioned the first major battle in "Aliens" where the Colonial Marines get their asses handed to them on a platter?

War movie choices:
1. First 30 and last 20 minutes of SPR
2. Almost all of "Black Hawk Down"...it really shows how a battle plan can quickly degenerate into a chaotic clusterf**k.
3. The Drang Valley battle in "We were Soldiers"
4. The Volga river crossing and subsequent human-wave attacks in "Enemy at the Gates" was intense.
5. Soviet T-34 tanks overrunning German positions in "Iron Cross"

I'll have to rent "Zulu" soon...ashamed I haven't seen it yet!

<< I'll have to rent "Zulu" soon...ashamed I haven't seen it yet! >>

Do it, you won't regret it! The last moments of the last battle are the best there is when it comes to on-screen battles!

LIONHEART.

I adore the last fight in which Jean Claude Van Damme whacks the daylights of the other guy. I love most of his movies anyway. Hardtarget was another excellent action movie

EDIT: is mano-vs-mano fights included in"battles" ? Else my vote doesn't count....

There is a cool fight in The Crow too. When everyone try to kill him with guns and all in the room with the big table.

<< Of course--how can I forget Braveheart and Starship Troopers >>

Starship Troopers gets my vote. The scene when the troop was stuck on "P" in the small battlements fighting the swarm of bugs.
