A sampling... these are fun to read :)

"When I was in preschool, I had just seen Superman the night before so I figured I could fly. I was at the pool with all the other kids and I remember yelling out "look everyone, I'm Superman!" I jumped in the pool at the deep end, but there was only one problem, I didn't know how to swim. Well, I don't think I was that Super after that, the ironic part is today I can fly - I'm a pilot."

"Probably when my brother and I used to play gladiators and joust with big poles and garbage can lids. He would get to wear a nice football helmet to protect his head, and I was stuck with a metal bucket."

"The best memory I have is from my older sister's birthday. She opened her last and biggest present only to find He-Man's Castle Grayskull. My parent's basically forgot it was for me and had forgotten to give it to me. Our bithdays were kind of close, so..."

"My favorite childhood memory was when I was two. It was the day I was adopted. I remember getting into the car and going for the ride to what was to become my home.

Thanks for making me think about that day."

"My favorite childhood memory is sneaking away during kindergarden class and searching the playground for caterpillars. Every day I would turn up missing, and the teachers would always find me sitting by the tree with a bunch of caterpillars climbing all over me."

"So I was young, probably 5 or 6. My parents worked days, and so my grandparents took care of me a lot while my parents worked. One day they took me out for lunch to this restaurant. I thought it was nice, but I was 5 so it could have been any old restaurant but I was impressed. I sat on a booster seat and could see everyone else in the place. I felt so important and high. The waitress came by, and I remember thinking she was cute, but again, I was 6. She asked if anyone wanted a cocktail, and I instinctively said, yes, of course, ill have one. She leaned forward as my grandparets laughed, and said "oh yeah little man, what kinda cocktail you want?" I said, with all seriousness, "a fruit cocktail." She lost it ,my grandparents lost it, and eventually I found out that the entire staff and cooks lost it when they heard too. Maybe not my complete favorite, but probably one of the most innocent and fun."

"My favorite childhood memory is when i was about 10. Like all Korean families, we owned a market. So, during the summers I would always be there. This did not lend my childhood to "normal" things like little league or camps or things like that. But I found ways to express my interest in sports. Me and my sister, who was also there, would have batting practice in the back storage room of the market. I would pitch to her and her to me and we would just hit.

My father at the time was working a normal job 9-5 and then would come to the store and finish what he needed to do there. After that, he would study for his CPA exam. Needless to say he was really busy.

Well, one day me and my sister were playing "batting practice", and the ball had bounced into the area where my dad was studying. He picked it up and looked at me. He threw me the ball and smiled. I asked him if he wanted to
play with us. He said sure, but only for a little bit. (My dad's test was about a week away.) He came, and the three of us all played. My mother came by and in typical Korean fashion looked at us cynically as she told us we were all crazy. It didn't matter. We continued to play. We all had a blast. What was supposed to be for "a little bit" ended up being to closing time, which was over an over of playing.

My father ulitmately failed to recieve his certification. He missed it by a single question. I wonder if an extra hour of studying would have helped with one of his incorrect answers. It may have. But I don't feel bad. My
dad took it again and passed with flying colors the second time. And that hour or so of "batting practice" did more for the three of us, then any three letters at the back of my dad's name could have done.

It was the first time, we played, and it was also the last time. We never played like that again. I like to think that it was because all the questions that I had, was answered in that moment. Or maybe it's because too much of a good thing is never recommended. All I know is that hour or so of "batting practice" gave me all the love, encouragement, support to help practice the same and to help me bat all the challenges that would come my way for the following 16 years."

"When I was very young, I used to watch a Japanese children's tv show - called Johny Sokko and His Flying Robot - every single afternoon following school. This program was about a little boy and his "pet" giant robot, and their adventures together. I was so amused by this show that I could not stand to look away from the tv for one moment, and when I had to blink, I did so very, very fast. When I wasn't watching "Giant Robot" I was actively fantasizing about having my own pet giant robot - Especially at school because I was a shy, lonesome little guy, and having no friends, would fill the solitude with thoughts of summoning my robot with my secret communicator hidden inside my watch just to see how amazing it would be to have my 100 foot tall robot appear at school for all the children to see.

What a dream it was. Sure would like to dream it again."

"Probably the most interesting one revolved around nightmares I use to have when I was around 5-6 years old. I used to have nightmares...no...maybe better described as intensely anxious dreams as a child. I would dream I was in the Redwood forest and had....had to...cut and haul away all those trees by myself. The thought of those huge trees towering my little self, there was no way I could achieve that daunting task and it was horrifying!

My family used to say I would sleep walk and turn on all the lights in the house, probably an attempt to wake myself up from the dream. One time I sleepwalked, it was early morning and the next thing I knew I was on the side of my house and woke up. To this day I remember that moment as vividly as anything that has happened in my life. It was a warm and muggy Washington, DC summer morning and that side of our house faced the East. I can recall waking up, feeling the rising sun's rays that peeked through the trees warm my face and skin, the feel of the morning dew covered grass on my feet and in the most profound childhood thought process, I said to myself "This isn't right" (meaning sleepwalking). I never sleepwalk again in my life. And to this day I never recall having a nightmare or anxiety dream
that caused me any suffering. Whatever bad dreams I can remember when I wake, it is always like I was just observing it from the outside, like from the side of my family's house that summer's morning so many years ago..."

"Mine is when I was 4 years old and I finished my cereal one morning. Then I turned the bowl upside-down and began playing it like a drum.

And 30 years later, that's what I do."

"One of the better stories that always seems to irk my father when I bring it up centers around a Christmas present. When I was about 4-5 years old, my father bought a very expensive, very big present for me (which neither of us now remembers what it was), and on Christmas morning, I opened the large box, played with the present for about 30 minutes, and then took the box outside and played with it constantly for about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, he 'forgot' to take it in when it rained next, and I lost a very valuable piece of my childhood..."

"I grew up on a farm. Bucky was my pet cow, he was black and white, a beef cow if you are familiar. he was cool, he would always come right to me and I could even ride him. When I would go out and bring in the animals, which have long gone, my Dad got out of farming, he is an engineer, go figure. So I would go out and bring in the animals with feed, Dad would have a bucket and I took an hand full one day and he said to hold it out, sure enough Bucky cane right to me, sadly, I freaked out at 4years old when the rest of the cows started running after me, I turned and ran got behind Dad and Freake out. He picked me up and laughed like crazy."

"I remember driving my bike past a vegetable truck that used to deliver fresh veggies in Beverly Hills, and stealing an avocado. Then snuck into the Beverly Hills Hotel, snuck into the kitchen (this was all with a buddy) and stole four things:
1. All the raw eggs
2. The thousand island salad dressing
3. Two spoons.

Then we went out on a fire escape overlooking the parking lot. With the spoons and dressing we ate the avocado. Then we started dropping eggs on any Cadillacs that moved. Then as we ran, we took telephones off the hook to give them a better chance to catch us. Then we threw grapefuits we had staced up down hill into the swimming pool, until the lifeguard chased us.

He was afraid to run across Sunseyt Blvd with cars going. Got a good lead, but he almost caught us before we got to our bicycles. Really scary!! But then we rode in circles around him teasing."

"a embarrassing story is from 4th grade i think. i reached into my algebra teacher's pocket and pulled out a tampon, mistaking the white wrapper poking out of her pocket as candy. it was the last class of the day and all my buddies and me had a crush on the teacher. she was young and we all had a friendly relationship with her. i pulled out the tampon right after the bell rang signifying school was out. i don't remember if i dropped the tampon or what, but i remember running the hell out of there. the next day or so, i had to go to the vice principal's office and explain to this bitchy old woman what happened and why i would go into mrs. caldwell's pocket, what right did i think i had. i was just doing it as a joke. i wanted to steal her candy."

"I was very young...and we had a kitty Kat who ate on the front porch of our house. For some reason I thought the cat would enjoy eating dinner with someone, so I set another bowl of food next to hers and joined her for dinner....cat food and everything. It was dry food tho?...

I also remember eating potato chips and dirt.

I eat much better now."

"My favorite childhood memories stem from being around 4 when I would wake up and go with my mom to drop my older sisters off at school and then come home.....my mom would make me breakfast and I'd sit on her lap, eat my breakfast, and watch cartoons. It's nice to think back to those days where nothing else mattered. The good stuff. My mom passed away 3 years ago, but you can't take those memories away...."

"When I was about eight years old, my family took a trip to Disney World. As you might expect, the lines for all of the rides were ridiculously long, and the line for Captain Nemo's Underwater Submarine Adventure was no exception. After being in line for about a half hour, I began to realize that it might have been a good idea to go to the bathroom prior to embarking on this particular voyage, but I figured I'd be okay.

After another half hour passed, I was in full-on pee-pee dance mode, but didn?t tell my parents because I thought I'd lose my space in line if I had to leave to go to the bathroom. Finally, after about an hour and a half, it was our turn to board Captain Nemo?s sub; unfortunately for me (and for Captain Nemo?s crew) in addition to a new group of passengers, the ship was also about to take on a lot of water. About 2 minutes into the 5 minute ride, as secretly as I could, I unleashed a biblical flood that soaked my favorite pair of yellow jams and pooled beneath my seat. At almost that exact moment, there was some sort of mechanical screw-up on the ride and it ground to a halt. Just after the announcement of the delay, my brothers noticed the tell-tale pee-pattern on my jams and the relatively monstrous puddle under my seat, and began shouting that "Cory sunk the ship!" O

f course, everybody on the ride, including my parents, thought that was hilarious. Being an eight year old moron, however, I actually thought it was true, that somehow my pee really had sunk the ship, and I was afraid Disney World was gonna make me buy Captain Nemo a new submarine. Luckily, Captain Nemo let me off with a warning, but ever since that day, I've been a little nervous on boats."

"I would have to say mine is a memory of my brother and I out in the garden. I remember it pretty clear. He was holding a hammer for some reason. He told me to stay still and wanted to see if it would hurt if he hit me in the head with the hammer. I stood still, and wondered if it would hurt also. He gave me a good WHACK on the head. Oh damn it hurt! So i ran in crying to my mom. He got his ass whooped, i'm sure of it. Luckily, I had no permanent damage."

"i was 5 and my sis was 9 my sister and i found a bird that flew into the window because it was so clean and clear. Well, we found it and (my sister wears glasses) she thought it was dead but it looked like it was still breathing to me so, my sister told me to get something to put it in so, i got a shoe box and made a nest for it and placed the bird in the box. Then we left it open and put it on a nice spot in the tree so the cat would not eat it. Anyways a couple hours later we took the box down to check if the bird was still alive, the bird was still there . I was telling my sister to keep her voice down just in case the bird was still alive i wanted to keep it. She kept telling me it was dead and we should just bury it, i told her it was still breathing and in the mist of arguing with my sister we had our eye of the bird and when we looked back at the bird it jump up and flew towards us and flew away. That scared us for a sec and made us laugh but , we were happy that it was still alive."

"I was maybe 5 years old and our family was moving from our old home to the new one. My dad brought my brother and I to the new home first and told us to wait there as he went back to get my mom. (We were in china so we only had a bike I think) anyhow after he left my brother and I started fighting. I have no idea what it was but I got so upset that I left the new house and tried to walk back on my own to the old house. It was not really far away and I had a good sense of direction even at that age. But I since my brother beat me up and made me cry, I was walking on the street still unhappy and with tears in my eyes. I made it nearly all the way to the old house until some old lady saw me. She thought I was lost and carried me up. I ended up crying louder because she did not seem to carry me in the direction that I wanted to go. She also insisted that I was lost and don?t know my way even thought I had the house area where my house was in sight. She later called the police and I became a "lost child."

"I remember a dream I had when I was 8 yo. I was a little boy who never went through a yucky girl phase and in my dream my neighbor was a cute little girl. She and I always hung out, would go to the park and were great friends. All my guy friends were like "why do you hang out with a girl?" and always would try and make fun of her. She was in a club that was all girls and one day she decided to bring me and let me in. her girls wouldnt let a boy in and she cried and ran off to a creek that was by our house. i looked for her but when i caught up to her she fell off a fallen tree and drown in the creek. the story itself i probably derived from a book i read called bridge to teribethia which was the same story. But I remember it was the first time I ever felt significant loss in my life and I was heart broken for the first time."

"I burned my hands by accident at the age of four, second degree all over. I remember hanging over my dad's shoulders as he carried me through the hospital, and I remember the pain. My dad was so calm. I was bandaged for weeks, but funny, I was too young to know all the danger I had been thru. My dad used to make me clench my fists and move my hands thru my bandages.

I found out a couple of years ago the reason he made my clench my fists and move them was that the doctors thought I had severe nerve damage and might never have proper use of my hands. Considering I play 5 instruments now, I thought the whole thing was amazing. I never knew how intense all that drama was, and how close I could feel to my folks."

"I remember going to the airport with my dad, and getting pulled over because there were like 7 of us kids in the car. No seatbelts and stuff wasn;'t much of a problem like 20 years ago...so it was just funny then because the cop looked in and we all (kids) looked out and just wanted to sit on the guys motorcycle, and whatever. Another memory I had was in elementary school when we had science day or whatever, and we were allowed to play with animals. Well, I was holding a rabbit, and it pooped all over my arm and I put the rabbit down and it RAN. hahaa....end of rabbit"

"I was 3 1/2, I remember this because my mother was pregnant with my sister.

We were in a dark theatre watching a movie, don't recall the movie, and I told my mother I had to pee. she said to wait, but I told her I could not wait and I had to pee. So instead of getting up (she was pregnant about 8/9 months)she took the lid of her drink. She put it in front of me and told me to go pee in the cup.

I told her I no, no mommy... i have to go pee.. so she pulled my pants and undies down and made me go in the cup.

What about the noise you ask? She slowly lowered the cup so that it would not make a splash sound and moved it around. She put the cup down on the floor and I raise my pants and sat down....

When the movie was over, she left the cup there.....I told my mother that about 2 years ago (and I am 37 now okay) and she could not believe I would remember that. I told her I was traumatized and that now I am afraid to go pee in public."

"I was living in Kansas City living the good ol' Midwest life, watching Heman and the Masters of the Universe with my friends. We got into an argument about who would be the successor to Heman's throne and decided that the only way to truly know was to fight the rottweiler dog across the street. So we each found sticks and ran around the neighborhood stealing all the rubber bands from people's newspapers. By tying the rubber bands together and stretching them to the ends of the sticks, we made makeshift bow and arrows. I decided that I would go first to fight the "beast". Needless to say, I lost and nearly lost my life in the process. I was taken to the hospital with serious injuries to my arms and sides. I still have the bite marks to prove it. The irony is that I've always loved dogs, even rottweilers. My roommate and I have a French bulldog right now. But I'll never forget the time that I fought to be the successor to Heman's throne so that one day, I could fight the evil Skeletor. I'm not sure what's more ridiculous, the fact that I did something so dumb or that I still remember the details of that 80s cartoon."

Uncle Bert showing me his magic puppet! I remember him letting me play with it whenever we were alone. It must have been special because he was really insistant that I don't tell anyone else about it.
