What's your favorite "brown bag" lunch?

I've been "brown-bagging" it/bringing my lunch to work because I just can't afford to blow $5-10 every afternoon for food.

Turkey sandwiches with mustard and mayo get pretty old, pretty quick.

For those of you who do the same, what are your favorite things to make/pack? I'm looking to add more variety to lunch from home.

If I do take something from home, it's usually some homemade chili with deermeat and suasage, and a pack of crackers.

Usually leftovers. I'm not too big into sandwiches, so Spaghetti or some kind of pasta, Chicken fried rice, etc.

There's just something that never gets old about PB&J and some potato chips.

There are a gazillion lunchmeat/sandwich options - tuna salad, chicken salad, turkey salad, bologna, ham, cappicola, cheese, chicken breast, liverwurst, etc.

A lot of times I make a big dinner with the intention of eating leftovers for lunch a day or two.

mmmmm I might have to swing by Georgia sometime. I haven't had any venison products in ages.

One of my favorites is slicing up left over steak and tossing with lettuce, tomato, red onion, shredded cheddar, a little mayo and lots of Louisiana Hotsauce. Stuff the mixture into toasted pita. mmm...

I also like making orzo salad. I'll use leftover orzo and toss with uncooked brocolli, black olives, tomatoes, onions, a little garlic, peppers, and basically any other veggies I have lying around with a little olive oil and red wine vinegar, a pinch of salt and a couple grinds of black pepper. Maybe a couple cubes of whatever cheese I have lying around...you basically can't mess this one up. 🙂

Casseroles of any sort make great next day leftovers as well if you have a microwave at the office.

Mmmm, those sound good! I think steak is on sale for $3.75/pound at Albertson's this week. I might pick some of that up w/pitas and veggies, thanks. (never had orzo salad?)

Another vote for PB&J.

Cheap, tasty, filling, and I personally like it all squished up, which is an occupational hazard with brown bag lunches.

My wife and I grill up some chicken breasts early in the week and then cube it up. Use it for salads throughout the week. A big bed of baby spinach leaves and then some romaine or field greens for the filler. Throw in some croutons, crushed cashews and different seasonings and dressing to keep it mixed up.

I also will take pastrami or baked ham or turkey and slice up and dump in a salad too along with the other normal toppings.

Other things are to get some jumbo baked potatos and cook up a couple of them at the beginning of the week. You can then reheat them and have them for meals or parts of meals later on. Not bad with enough toppings 🙂

Value meal at wendys

Jr. Bacon Cheese Burger
1/4 lb Double Stack
Jr. Cheeseburger delux
5 piece nuggets
side salad
baked potater
french fries
frosty
chili

Pick 3 of the above + water.

Dump the bread and buy some big flower tortillas. Just about anything, including salads, can be eaten in a tortilla.

Cold meatloaf with mayo, ketchup on white bread or one of those leaf bags they sell at Home Depot sprinkled with olive oil.
