It is absolutely amazing that a society deathly afraid of a little butter will scarf down literally gallon after gallon of ice cream while remarking "this is the most perfect food in the world"

Can anyone tell me why? If not, would anyone like to know why?

I thought butter and bacon, or fat in general, was back in.

We get Ice Cream actually on a now and then basis.

Same as Bacon, we buy it and make BLT's about once a month more or less.

We usually always have real butter around :)

Ben & Jerry's for me. Mostly by virtue of growing up in their area...and I haven't bothered to get an ice cream scoop yet. Chocolate chip cookie dough was what got me hooked, The Tonight Dough is awesome.

Mint in ice cream is fucking disgusting.

Pretty much all of my cooking needs are done with olive oil. Only used one stick of butter in the past three years or so but I have no problem with it, oil is just way easier to manage. And it takes 2-4 times for me to even go through a pint of ice cream.

Who's afraid of butter? It's margarine that's pure garbage.

homemade brand mint chocolate chip

no contest

You ever try Haagen Daz Mint Chip? I've tried every other brand that's available out here and its the best I've ever had from a supermarket. What I like about it is the strong peppermint taste and the dark chocolate pieces actually melt in your mouth even though they're cold. Plus its WHITE not putrid green color. ;)

Yeah, fats are difficult for your body to process, so a lot of it just passes through you. Simple carbs process very easily, meaning the body will process them and turn them to fat stores quickly.

So: stick of butter = OK
Stick of butter that's breaded = bad

:)

Kroger's Private Selection is actually excellent for a store brand. I think their Chocolate Ganache flavor won a bunch of awards for "best chocolate ice cream" recently, beating out a lot of big brands.

All these selections with hard chocolate in them. What is wrong with you people?

homemade ice cream is best, followed by artisanal ice cream done by people serious about it (I know a sicilian gelateria that's great).

If we're talking prepackaged ice cream, then I guess Carte d'Or (unilever's "luxury" brand).
I also like Pralinato by Nestlé, but I think it's because it has a stick of hard chocolate in the middle.

I thought butter and bacon, or fat in general, was back in.
this, it was a scare of the 70s, that also caused the spread of the very unhealthy margarine. Nowadays it's mostly old people who drank the margarine kool aid when they were adults that still use it.

Agreed. The only ones that are good are the ones with the slivered/shaved chocolate which melt at the same pace as the ice cream. Hate biting down on a giant crunchy chocolate chip.

Haagen-Daz and Ben & Jerry's.

Be careful as many "ice creams" are not ice cream anymore. Most Bryers are "frozen dairy dessert" now. Many other brands are also going the less milk and more chemical route.

So read the label carefully.

Well, how do you feel about, say, Rocky Road? Pecan? There is a lot of crunchy stuff in the world of ice cream mix-ins.

If it isn't homemade I prefer Tollamook as well. Udderly Chocolate is really good!

Tip on keeping homemade ice cream scoopable: for every 4-6 cups liquid add 1-2 tsp Karo, a very small splash of vodka, and 1/4 tsp. guar gum (mixed into your sugar). Don't skimp on the cream as the cream holds the air.

Chewing nuts is standard procedure. Chewing chocolate is punishable by death.

On top of that, most hard chocolate added to ice cream these days is mockolate, which should be killed with fire.

Nuts are good, even toffee bits, things like that. Something about crunching on chocolate bits in ice cream which does not feel right in the mouth.
