Oskar Blues makes a fantastic Scotch Ale. I'm trying to remember the really tasty Bourbon Beer that I used to love, but memory escapes me...for some reason.

These guys are great: Dale's Pale Ale, Ten Fiddy, Old Chub--all canned awesomeness.

KEEP PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE CHUB!

Sorry, no one seems to appreciate it - local bar/movie place has it and the bartender said no one lines it, I was the first one. It's a freaking awesome beer, and Rogue has an XS Scottish Ale that I can't wait to try - and SA is coming out with an Imperial Scottish Ale. I'm afraid to ask the ABV of it!

OMG, I love Old Chub... in fact I love all of their beers. Local pub here has them on tap... mmmmmmmmm.

I especially like IPAs (Samuel Smith being my current favorite) followed by Belgians (Dubbel Trappist Ale is amazing) while Reds are my main fallback that got me into beer (Killians). However there are no types that I don't drink though for some (stouts) I need to be in the right mood.

Please - explain the difference between these two varieties.

Stout's used to be called "Stout Porters" and essentially were started as an offshoot of Porters. Eventually people just started to call them Stouts as if they were a seperate style rather than a subset of Porters.

Anyhow,
The most basic breakdown is this
Malted Barley = Porter
Unmalted, Roasted Barley = Stout

Was over in Savannah on vacation this weekend and had a lot of good local brews at the Moon River brewing company (Captain porter is freaking awesome btw) and a few other places. It got me thinking about various beer styles, and then I realized I was curious what you guys like. So what kind of beer is your favorite?

stouts/porters, though i tend to like ambers more in warmer months.

I agree with your order. aluminum does something to the taste of beer, and it's not good.

I agree, except, it's spelled aluminium. ;)

I don't know why tap is better than bottle, probably because you won't be drinking on tap often without being in a pub with friends.

Guiness extra stout, i don't drink any other beer.

youre missing out. while im told guiness in the UK is far better than what we get here (i almost never buy it) surely there is some other beer over there worth trying.

/but hey, at least you arent drinking the equivalent of bud light

My little brother when he was about 6 years old used to call it, "a-loon-a-moon"
Reminded me a lot of the spelling and pronunciation used by the English for some reason...

PS ... the beer does not get absorbed into the Aluminum.
The liner does not get absorbed into the beer.

You may notice a metallic taste if you don't pour the beer into a glass before drinking it, but that's from putting the can up to your lips.

Beer can be canned and when poured into a glass , is equal to the bottled beer, or in some cases better, since less light penetrates aluminum vs glass.

That said, I agree that it's usually tastier fresh from a tap :)

Oh i'll try other beers, but after many years, it's my favourite and considering that i don't drink more than one every few years i don't take any chances nowadays. ;)

Everyone else i know is drinking the same except a few Kilkennys that slip through here and there.. Bitches love Kilkenny's. ;D

I've heard that before and did a taste test, i don't know if it's the cleaners or the aluminum oxide or whatever it is, but i can taste it.

There is no use arguing over it though since it's best from the tap. :)

The only difference between a can and a keg is that a can is one use only, while the keg has to be hooked up to a plastic tube hooked up to a tap.

Bottle is fine, tap is better... Beer should never come in cans, for some reason, it tastes like sheit.

Incorrect, as has been already pointed out that a proper can does not impart any taste to a brew .. and a tap is coming from keg which is also made of aluminum. :p Also, some beers are better from a can (nitro can with a widget) than from a bottle; Young's Double Chocolate Stout comes to mind, the nitro can version is much better than the glass bottle.

Not at all, i don't know what the difference is other than extra stout isn't delivered in the same kind of kegs as the porter but i do know the difference.

I've already said i can taste the difference, i really can, i'll do a taste test any fucking day of the week and get 100 out of 100 right, it's not that there is a tad of a difference either, it's a LOT.

My favorite anytime beer is wheat beer. I go to Mexican markets to get Shiner Hefeweisen, which is always a treat.

I like all beers though, good beer is art.

And we all know the best beer is free beer!

And if i drop five teaspoons of piss in one keg only ten out of one hundred would taste it, that doesn't mean that those people are wrong.

I am not shitting you, i've done the taste test for free beer SO many times and have not missed ONCE.

Since i only drink Guiness extra stout, those special beers would do me no good either.

I drink Guinness extra stout, no other beer, except maybe a Pilsner if i'm in Bern, i only drink Laphraoig (ten years, the older shit is not the same) when it comes to whiskeys and only Patron when it comes to tequila, i don't give a fuck what is more expensive or refined, i don't care for others opinions on the matter either.

It's Guinness extra stout from tap or bottle or i'd rather have a glass of water.

Over here Guinness in a can is FAR better than the bottle, they are not even the same beers IMO.

Try comparing something like Dos Equis in a can vs bottle. You'll never be able to tell the difference, unless the bottles have started to go bad... which happens sometimes.
