Was over in Savannah on vacation this weekend and had a lot of good local brews at the Moon River brewing company (Captain porter is freaking awesome btw) and a few other places. It got me thinking about various beer styles, and then I realized I was curious what you guys like. So what kind of beer is your favorite?

My vote goes to stouts, with hefeweisens, dunkels, and porters all closely trailing.

It's hard to pick one b/c it depends on weather and mood. Probably an ale, amber, or dunkel.

I'll usually default to pale ales, but my tastes swing widely with mood and the food in front of me. I'll enjoy anything from the lightest of pilsners to the heaviest of stouts.

My vote goes to Stouts. I'm partial to a local brewery's Oatmeal Stout and another local brewery's Chocolate Oatmeal Stout. Mmmmm dark and creamy.

Its all good, except for regular budweiser, that stuff is nasty.

Currently, I usually drink shiner bock or coors light.

Ale or lager, depends on the occasion, time of year, what I'm eating, etc.

Shouldn't porter and stout be the same category, since they're essentially the same type of beer?

Oh, and take Ale out of the poll, as anyone of the others in the pole can be an Ale, with the exception of the Pilsner, which is always a Lager.

IDK, I wasn't aware. I checked wiki since you mentioned it, and they say that porters and stouts were roughly the same a few hundred years ago, but largely use different malts, yeasts, and additives nowadays. I'd still consider them fairly different, since I've never had a porter that tasted like a stout, or vice versa.

Also, how can I edit the poll? I can change Ale to specifically Pale Ale.

As light as possible. Usually I end up drinking Coors Light or Corona Light.

I choose dunkel/dark but i think i should have chose Belgian. New Belgium 1554 is simply amazing, but its kind of all 3 of those i guess styles i think.

Beer = bad.

About the only drinkable "beers" would be Lindemans Framboise Lambic or Smirnoff Ice. Both are real streches to call beer.

Hard alcohol is much, much better. Quicker and actually tastes good.

srsly

I much prefer porters to stouts.

In the winter, porters are my favorite, but Hefeweizens are my favorite summer brew.

Is that the same brewery that makes Fat Tire?

Yes. Their 'Mothership Wit' is also excellent (actually, most of their beers are top-notch).

Both New Belgium and Bell's, I think can do no wrong.
