If you like "city stuff" it's tough to beat Chicago. Sports, museums, awesome food, really interesting architecture, and fairly friendly people as far as a big city goes.

Outdoors wise, Starved Rock is pretty nice:

But there's some great boating/fishing/camping stuff downstate too.

Toronto. There really isn't much else in Ontario.

For my old home BC, I would have to say either the Gulf Islands or the Okanagan in the summer.

I'll go out on a limb and say Austin. This city rules

sadly, austin is infected with douchenozzles and food trucks. the only good part of the city anymore is texas memorial stadium.

BOOM. Answer there.

Almost feels like a cheat, since Chicago in itself is so neighborhood-y so it's like several different cities clumped into one, IMO.

You lie, all the FIBs come up to Wisconsin when they want to get out of Chicago. They must own at least half of northern Wisconsin.

I'm not too picky, I like getting out to anywhere north of Madison, especially during the summer.

Ehh, I guess it's Wauconda, which is where I live. Good library, lots of parks, decently big forest preserves, close to even more forest preserves, nice little lake, affordable to live in, snowmobile trails, friendly people, decent restaurants, quiet, semi-rural...
