whats your favorite anime and which anime do you think is considered as worthy for a dvd purchase? i feel like my dvd collection has a serious lack of anime (i only have akira and princess mononoke) and i wanna know what else to buy.


my favorite anime is "neon genesis evangelion" and i already plan to purchase the series on dvd. so any other suggestions?
 
Depends what you like. I prefer serious tone animes and I think those below are worth to buy:

Grave of the Fireflies
Rurouni Kenshin the Movie
Ghost in the Shell

I also like Miyazaki's anime movies (Princess Mononoke). Other anime movies by Miyazaki:

My Neighbour Totoro
Nausicaa Valley of the Wind
Laputa Castle in the Sky
Kiki's Delivery Service

Ranma 1/2 is cool also. I think they are selling every single TV episode ever (44 DVDs I believe) on tokyopop.com for only around $2000!! 😀 If I only had the money.. *siiiiiigh*

neon genesis evangelion - Best series I´v seen
love hina - Not seen the series, my friends have and say its ok, I´v just seen the live concert, ITS HORRIBLE, sure buy the series but stay away from the concert, nothing worse than a huge hall full of 20-30 year old guys watching 20-30 year old women act as they are 10-15 singing bad jpop music.

Ghost in the Shell - Seen it, have it and love it
Princess Mononoke - Not seen it but I´v heard it is great

Akira - Brilliant movie, perhaps a bit hold as you can obviosly seen on the animation, but still very good

Macross - Not seen it but I know a few people who have it on dvd, so it must be good
Robotech - Not seen it but heard its just a copy of Macross
Starblazers - Not seen it
cowboy bebop - Not seen it... but.. ahemm.. I have some episodes, just havent bothered to watch them
Vampire Hunter - Second anime movie I saw, looooved it.. havent seen it again since then so its still good in my mind
Vandread - seen a few episodes, like what I have seen
Trigun - not seen it but heard its good
Street Fighter II V - Not seen it but heard its crap
Ranma 1/2 - Seen.... ALOT of this.. not because I wanted to just because one of my friends is a fan and I sat through a few episodes.. I mean series.. or something. It was fun for the first 5-10 episodes, it was ok for the next 10 episodes then it got unimaginable repeating and boring and now I hate it. Of all the people I know and have seen it (thats quite a lot) only two of them love it but the rest of them hate it.
DragonBall Z - Not seen it and dont want to kill my mind
3x Eyes - Goood series, I recomend it
Doomed Megalopolis - Not seen it.


I wrote this basicly just so I can trash Ranma.
 
Cowboy Bebop... excellect series and movie... must see. The story is a bit laid back, but its really good once you get in to it.

Ranm 1/2 (boo you Czar) 😉. If you dont like the repetiveness of of Ranma, Watch Inu Yasha. Its done by the same person who did Ranma, but this one actually have a story line that progress.

Rurouni Kenshin - OAV is my absolute favorite... The series are awesome, and the new Oav2 is out on... ahem... irc.

Grave of the fireflies - Very powerful, excellent. You will only watch it once though.

Princess mononoke - Abviously one of the best movies out.

Ghost in the shell - Excellent.

I cant wait till Inu Yasha goes on DVD... its simply the best out right now.

EDIT - Golden boy is ecchi... and its simply hilarious. Its a must see. 🙂
 
Hmm, there's a lot of good anime on dvd, I'll take a couple of examples from my own collection:
Serial Experiments Lain: if you like the last episodes of Eva then you'll like this. Probably my fave anime.
Tenchi Muyo, especially the OVA: fun series, the ova is much better than the tv-series.
Gunbuster: one of the best mecha shows
Slayers (tv-series, movie): okay if you like fantasy
Gasaraki: people with psychic powers piloting realistic (gasp!) mecha
Oh my Goddess (ova and moive): a young man living with three Goddesses
Pok&eacute;mon: just kid(ding). Okay, it was a bad joke.

walkur, Transformers is actually japanese since it was made (drawn and animated) in Japan based on US script and designs. Plus, it has lasted longer in Japan than in the US.
 
Cowboy Bebop -- Definitely one of the best series I've ever seen
Record of Lodoss Wars -- Classic fantasy storytelling
