I like that pcv1000 but it needs a side window for me to buy.

Right now I love my PC60 w/window.

my dream case would have to be either the Lian-Li apple clone (for looks) or that $5,000 no fans needed case (for practicality)

It's only $1200. :p

I like the Antec P160 - cooled hard drive cage, removable motherboard tray, all sorts of nice features.

Well, I'm one of those folks w/ $200 case.... but it's really not that great. it's just a gussied up $60 case.

I dream of a case without walls or boundaries... or noise.

Plastic is LOUSY for heat conduction and all you have is yet ANOTHER piece to rattle and make noise. Plus RF interference normally blocked by the metal panel could put you outside the legal range.

I can understand the appeal of a window, but unless you're watching something /happen/, it gets a little boring after a while, plus it's less safe, noiser and hotter.

My dream case has:
2 front USB and 1 front Firewire. No audio ports (no self-respecting machine will have onboard audio, and no self-respecting hardware soundcard has headers for front audio)

Since the case will be sitting on the floor, USB and firewire ports should be mounted at the top of the case, a-la Antec P160, or right on the "roof" of the case, a-la some Maxtop and Coolermaster units

Dual 120mm low-speed 120x38mm intake fans in front of the drive cage. Enough room to mount 8 hard drives (so that 4 can be mounted without stacking them right on top of each other)

At least two 3.5" bays available - 1 for floppy drive (inevitable), 1 for USB cardreader.

Unrestricted flow (no stamped fan grills ANYWHERE, just regular 120mm wire grills that are not disruptive to airflow. The only thing between front fans and the outside world should be a wire grill and an easily removable filter)

Enough room inside to stuff a small child into the case without taking the computer out. At least 30" tall and 23" deep. At least 16 inches from the back of optical drives to the back of the case, to comfortably fit any EATX motherboard.

No metal piece secured by any less than FOUR mounts in the four corners of the metal piece, to minimize vibration and rattles. Some sort of soft mounting for the front edges of side panels should be utilized.

No removable motherboard tray, again, to minimize moving metal pieces. Given the cavernous amount of room inside, I shouldn't need a removable mobo tray.

Cut out an area from the motherboard mount that generally covers all mounting holes on most motherboards. This allows the user to access the back of the motherboard to install bolt-through heatsinks without removing motherboard from case.

Liberal amounts of bushings and grommets for anything that moves and spins (i.e. hard drives, fans, PSU(s)) to minimize vibration.

Standard layout, which 90% works for 90% of our computers. Sure, the V1000 works VERY well for those of us who went all-SATA, but some of us can't resist the lure of $100 250gb Hitachi 7K250's from Fry's okay? :)

Everything user-removable (i.e. drive mounts, fan mounts, side panels,

Possibly dual PSU mounts. However, it would be hard to provision that without adding more loose metal pieces, and, with them, noise. Given a choice between less noise and dual PSU flexibility, I'd probably choose less noise :)

The funny thing is, I know someone who has Odeen's dream case. Except I think it's 34" tall. It's a monster.

My dream case is...
Athenatech Micro Tower Case with 300W Power Supply (Black/Silver), Model "A301BS.Q300"

... but made from aluminum, including front panel. Also, more HDD bays in the empty area under the current HDD bays. Maybe also an inch longer, because an inch is the current space between the power supply and the CDROM drives and it gets cramped in there. The front can use a 120mm fan & filter and the rear can use a 92mm fan spot. That should make for neutral air pressure, right (92mm plus power supply fan in rear)?

Of course it'll help if mobo manufacturers made "enthusiast" mATX mobos.

the fanless 1200 dollar case here - or a cardboard box with a few holes and a house fan blowing on it.

I would love to get a mATX plain case, that has a 120mm for exhaust, no drive bays for a floppy, plain front (i.e. no stupid fixtures, no wavey plastic, no bullshit, just plain flat front like a g5), enough for 2 5 1/4"s and 3-4 3.5"s, side panels are plain and smooth also, no punched out holes or any unnecessary stuff, just plain flat sides. I have been looking like a case like this for over 3-4 years, and I have yet to see it. Hence, it is my dream case.

asetek vapochill. A liquid cooling case. Very pricey. I already own 2 Koolace water cooled cases

I'm really digging the PC-V1100. The mesh grating on the V1000 just looks kinda weird to me.

Thinking of buying one at the end of the summer, once prices some down a little and I can find someone to unload my Coolermaster ATCS on.

I had an Addtronics 7890, which, for all intents and purposes, is the 750.

Shortcomings:
Only one floppy bay. Rest require conversion of 5.25" bays (not like there's a shortage of those, but it doesn't look as "exacting")
Very few hard drive mounting bays. None of them are cooled.
Removable mobo tray. Rattle-o-rama
Large expanses of flat metal. Until I went hog-wild and covered the inner surfaces with Dynamat (I think my current case, empty, weighs as much as one of the hearse-style side "doors" after the mod), and made 120mm fan mounts, the thing made horrid amounts of noise.
No bushings or grommets for moving things. Instead, we get plastic fan cages that rattle. It's okay for servers, but even in 1999 there were better alternatives (Palo Alto PA810) for home users.

Sincerely,

The resident cases and motherboards pundit :)

34" is nothing. Just put it NEXT to the desk, not UNDER it, and the height becomes irrelevant. I'd love to have that much room, what case is it?

the reason y i like the sonata so much is cuz its smaller then a typical mid-tower, its quiet, looks really elegant and nice, and will look good with a black comp setup.

Some kind of chieftec, I believe. Has dual PSU mounts and everything. I believe he was running it with just the fans in the power supply and an l1a on the processor.
