there's been a strong current of anti-political correctness around ot lately, with some people expressing their opinions about how others who get offended are "overly sensitive." try to give two situations, one that you would consider acceptable (but others might not) and another that would be tasteless. for fun, let's use halloween costumes as examples

example:

funny but potentially offensive: dressing up as a priest and keeping a a gay porn magazine showing from your back pocket

too much: dressing up as a muslim and keeping a map of new york city showing from your back pocket

or, if you think the priest is worse than the muslim, feel free to say that, too.

Both are funny and you are too sensitive. I take that back. Just the priest one is funny. I didn't really read the second one until I posted.

Second=lack of taste.

It really takes a lot to offend me.

Agreed. You'd have to get way more personally and directly insulting to offend me.

Maybe I'm just an insensitive prick, though. :D

I think if you're connected either to 9/11 or the Catholic abuse scandal you would feel that both were in bad taste.
Personally, I dont think they are funny because they're not my type of funny. * shurgs *

The main reasons I would say the second is in bad taste is mainly because of the nature of the tragedy involved. While I am not saying that child molestations are anything short of horrific, the WTC incident was of a totally different magnitude. I think it could be seen as offensive mainly because it highlights a stereotype that is potentially deadly to many muslims ... stuff like this can inflame those loonies who think that all members of that religion are terrorists and indiscriminately strike out against them. In other news hows your drive down going?

There are two ways to be sensitive. One is out of feelings of inferiority, detesting being reminded of some feeling you don't want to feel, and respect, where your have such inner integrity yourself that you can see feel and want to honor and support some good in the inner condition of others.
