What's your definition of a high maintenance female?

I've always wondered what the general definition of this was for a lady. Most people associate "high maintenance" females with their attractiveness. So I figure high maintenance means that the female likes to dress well and wear makeup when she goes out?

Or does the maintenance part simply mean you have to do a lot of work to make them happy?

My fiancee (see sig for reference) dresses well and tries to look nice most of the time. If she's not feeling well or if we're just hanging out at each others house or whatever, she'll wear sweat pants and an old t-shirt.

As for the part about making her happy... out of my own love for her, I do a lot of nice things to make her happy, but that is my own choice, and I'm sure she would still be happy if I wasn't always doing things for her, but that would never happen.

But last night we were laying down watching TV and out of the blue she was like "wouldn't it boring and distant if you were with a low maitenance girl?" ... and I never thought of my fiancee as high maintenance (see above reasons) so I guess I don't know what high maitenance is.

ask a girl to go camping with only the bare essentials. see how she handles it.

ashamedly, i got this idea from an MTV Newlywed show that has Jessica Simpson her husband. There's one high maintenance byotch.

High maintenance, to me, is someone who craves attention. Doesn't matter if she wears designer clothes and Gucci handbags and $500 shoes. I've seen women from the seedier parts of town who just wear jeans/sneakers but they *have* to have attention directed their way or they pout or get ticked off.

Or, someone who is just too damn picky. Has to have a certain type of car or has to have a certain outfit or has to have a salad fixed a certain way (think of, in that case, Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally ;))

I've always thought of it as meaning someone who is emotionally needy. Though I imagine someone with expensive tastes that you have to provide for could be considered high maintenance as well.

To me, someone is high maintenance if you take them to some place like a diner for dinner and they bitch because they only can eat at the finest restaurants.

'course high maintenance can be either monetary or emotional, or the dreaded, both of 'em.

I would go with the "needing constant attention/support/adoration" camp for what high maintenance is. Almost all of them will have some bit of spoiled brat in them, too, such as only eating at resturants that meet some specific requirement, or demanding that certain things HAVE to be done for them. I would also expect these to be the kind of girls commonly know for having "whipped" their boyfriends, and are usually the last thing a guy's group of friends will ever see of him. All in all, not the most pleasent people.

I like that method! :)

My definition of a high maintenance female is the opposite of my girlfriend. ;)

To me the test of a high maintenance female is this:

She wakes up late, having forgotten to set the alarm clock. She has just enough time to throw on clothes and rush to school/work/party/whatever to be there on time. Does she:
(a) get there on time,
(b) do a little hair touchup/makeup and gets there a few minutes late,
(c) refuses to go out looking like crap, takes a shower, does her hair, spends time doing makeup, then redoing her hair, then touching up the makup, arriving an hour or two late.

(a) is low maintenance, (b) is normal, (c) is high maintenance.

Attractiveness is not directly related to "high maintenance". Although in many cases spending more time on your looks will make you appear better - but that applies to ugly people just as it applies to attractive people.

I love my g/f because she's ultra low maintenance. Of course, she likes to look good when we go out but she's VERY smart about her money. She hates when I spend a lot on her. She dresses better than most girls I've known but spends about 1/10th of the money they did on clothes.

thats what I would guess "high maintenance" represents. Someone who is picky about restaurants and clothes are really just spoiled. High maintenance is when your SO demands you call them at certain times or gets upset about small things.

BTW- you boys are just as high maintenance as girls. I see it all the time on these forums!

I usually equate high maintainence to demanding. It doesn't matter whether the person is demanding physically, emotionally, or financially. My girl is normal maintainence. If I were a dependant person, I'd probably be classified as high maintainence.

There is only be ONE definition for high maintenance female .... that being there is a HIGH cost in maintaining her in a relationship. most people are just listing off what they are willing or not willing to put up with in a relationship. Just because a girl takes care of herself in no way correlates to whether or not she's "high maintenance" .... would you consider a girl who spends 2 hours/day getting dressed and "prettied up" and the other 16 waking hours cooking and cleaning for you high maintenance?? ... I would consider that a dream girl!

That's my definition as well. It can be material or emotional, but just somebody that requires a lot of work to make happy (and thus bitchy a lot of time because they're not kept happy).

Good post. I'd like to clarify that this high cost can be either emotional or monetary. Or both.
