Thinking about cutting off my landline after looking at a bill, 36 bucks just for basic service and voice mail. I normally use a calling card for long distance (3 cents a minute)

I figure for this price, might as well get a cell phone or get a VoIP account like Vonage or packet8

Who is your local telco?

We recently switched to Qwest basic service which is $25/mo including taxes, argh!

For long distance I would recommend BigZoo.com.

same here, looking to go wireless since the local telco is raping me. basic is 14, voice mail is 4. Yet, by the time they apply the taxes, surcharges and what have you I am already paying 36 a month

Suncom UnPlan Free (of course not free but you don't have to worry about how many minutes.. unlimited) if used in three counties and you have 300 minutes for when you're not in the three counties about $55 a month

best calling card I found is Tel3.com
