People do it with stuff outside of computer stuff too you know (shop for a particular brand).

:D

Syntax [Category: brand, reason]

Processors: AMD, because they're usually cheaper.

Motherboards: AOpen, because they've served me well last few purchases.

Mobo chipset: none

Video Card: ATI, I've figured out how they're model numbers correlated to performance.

Sound Card: none

Hard Drive: Seagate, because I never had one die on me (got one in the MBs that still works).

Optical Drives: Lite-on IT, couples cheap prices with high performance.

Floppy Drive: Mitsumi, don't know why...

Power supply: none

Case: none

Keyboard: none

Mouse: none

Speakers: Creative Labs, best quality speakers I've ever owned.

MP3 player: iRiver, updatable firmware and it's all I've had.

Sound Card: Creative, since they pretty much sets the standard with EAX.

For the rest I buy where I get most for my money.

The best price/performance/features ratio at the time of purchase determines what i get. I am not loyal to any particular brand.

Syntax [Category: brand, reason]

Processors: AMD, cause i hate intel

Motherboards: Asus, because of the high quality, im an exAbit man, switched because i did not like the idea of ECS building my motherboard

Mobo chipset: nVidia/Intel, stable and fast
Video Card: nVidia, best drivers overall, matters to me over hardware
Sound Card: nVidia, their integrated stuff is more than enough for me
Hard Drive: Western Digital, my raptor kicks ass
Optical Drives: LG, my dads LG burner seems to be extremly high quality
Floppy Drive: Floppies suck arse
Power supply: Antec/ThermalTake, Thermaltake served me well, but i like the features of my new antec
Case: Antec, Sonata is the best case i have ever owned
Keyboard: IBM/Lexmark Model M, the last real keyboard (klicky key) i hate mushboards
Mouse: Logitech, MS mice feel cheap to me
Speakers: Altec Lansing, best quality speakers i have ever used
Monitors: ViewSonic/Sony, best image quality, loved my old trinitron, but it died and has been replaced with a samsung
memory: Corsair XMS, best memory i have ever owned

Processors: AMD. Not because I am biased but for price-to-performance ratio.
Motherboard: Abit and MSI. Asus is the pits.
Motherboard Chipset: K7 & K8: nVidia, P4: Hacked 865PE
Video Card: ATI & nVidia. Which ever is better at the time of purchase.
Sound Card: nVidia Soundstorm & Audigy 2.
Hard Drive: Maxtor all the way.
Optical Drive: Lite-On and Samsung.
Floppy Drive: What's a floppy? :p
Power Supply: Fortron. More stable voltages for me then Antec and much quieter.
Case: Antec & Chieftec.
Keyboard: Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard. :D
Mouse: Logitech.
Monitor: Viewsonic.

I'm an AMD, Abit, and Lian-Li guy. Other parts may vary depending on price and performance.

As a 'value' guy as opposed to pure performance, I'd have to say ECS motherboards have served me pretty well. I've never had one break without a lot of help from my screwdriver, and they've always been rock-solid, with enough overclocking flexibility (at least in terms of fsb, votage, and memory speed/timings) to make me happy... though I do have to set my multiplier with little bits of wire!

Abit, AMD, nForce, Thermalright, Antec, ATI, Pioneer ot LiteOn, Turtle Beach, Seagate, not because it happens to be what I have, but because it's what works best for my needs.

Processors: Intel.... I just like em. Got AMD too, but just like to stick with what has worked and will work -least from mypoint of view.

Motherboards: ASUS..... Never let me down. Got a Shuttle XPC though... so far so good.

Mobo chipset: Intel.... again, just plain works for me.

Video Card: Was a Matrox fanboy.... but now I'm an ATI man.

Sound Card: Sound Blaster- but really don't care.

Hard Drive: Western Digital baby.

Optical Drives: No preference, but the Panasonics and Sony's have done well for me.

Floppy Drive: none

Power supply: The one in my shuttle kicks butt.

Case: Old Antec???? Unless you want to count my Shuttle SFF

Keyboard: none

Mouse: none

Speakers: Cambridge Soundworks..... Same as Creative???

MP3 player: iRiver, updatable firmware and it's all I've had. DITTO.

Processors: AMD offers best "Bang For Buck".

Motherboards: It's either Asus or Epox (in that order).

Mobo chipset: VIA - used to be diehard Intel but now that the bugs are ironed out...

Video Card: Since my Radeon 8500 I have been ATI's biatch ;). Seriously it seems as if they offer best Bang For Buck in the games that I play.

Sound Card: Sound Blaster- but really don't care.

Hard Drive: Matrox and Seagate.

Optical Drives: Back in the day Yamaha but nowadays the next best thing Plextor. DVD-ROM Drives are Pioneer territory.

Floppy Drive: Usually NEC or Sony... but i don't really care.

Power supply: Enermax

Case: Chieftec based Tower cases and Yeong Yang cubes... Of course a Shuttle minicube is a really neat toy

Keyboard: Logitech

Mouse: Microsoft - I have big hands and need a big mouse: Intellimouse fits perfectly. Logi MX is just too small.

Speakers: Don't care... but if possible i use a real HiFi system (Currently a Pioneer powered Surround setup)

hmm, you must be the PR guy from my local computer factory that said that they mainly use the matrox hard drives and that they are very good quality
