I love my Merckx, but it weighs a ton. Will be nice to finally have a light road bike for a change.

Gorgeous. A good friend of mine actually won a custom Steelman Eurocross in a raffle at one of the Surf City 'cross races in Santa Cruz a few years ago.
Hey, you haven't met a guy named John Funke at any of the Surf City races have you? He's a good friend of mine from here in Atlanta (and a kick-ass cross racer). He rides for SyCip.

I got a fabulous mountain bike from KMart for 50 dollars used. It's got springy forks and a springy back end too and a 35 dollar soft seat. It ways a ton and does a good seven or eight miles an hour by pumping like hell. I ride now most every day but only for heart rate and calorie burning so my bike is just perfect, or will be when my butt toughens up.

Hehe....I typically spend almost half as much time on my bike each week as I do at work (I'm averaging 13-18 hours per week on the bike these days). Sad but true. ;)

I'm in the process of flogging myself back into shape to do some racing this spring after several seasons of slacking off. I do mostly road riding, so any of the counties east and south of Atlanta are where you'll typically find me.

I look like a slacker compared to you. I usually try to get out for a couple of hours once or twice a week and enjoy the nice trails in Tucson AZ.

I can't say I love every minute of it, but every bit of training misery in the off season leaves you that much more capable of inflicting misery upon others once race season rolls around. :D

Every see that Lance Armstrong commercial "What am I on?" where he says he's on his bike five hours per day? He's not exaggerating....that's what it takes to win the Tour. It's also why a lot of cyclists aren't married....most women get sick of the guy spending more time on his bike that with them. :p

That is a cool old-school setup. Got a pic for us?

Thanks! :D

It's old school, but my friends dig the smooth ride. Wouldn't give her up for the world.

I'll take a pic in the morning. ;)

Sorry but no. I left CA in 1999, and only raced a few of the Surf City races (very slowly on my MTB!).

I've got an early-90's Bob Jackson (converted to a fixed-gear road bike) that's 531. It's like a magic carpet compared to my Merckx.

Agreed, except that the saddle seems like a bit of a fashion faux pas - I would have preferred to see a titanium-railed Brooks.

Oooh.... I know the Bob Jackson 531. That's a nice frame. Good geometry too. What size? It's wasting it's life as a fixed gear bike cause I know you're probably not using it for time trials or track. ;)
