What's Your Biggest Web Site Annoyance?

My biggest annoyance is a link to the page you are on. That just seems so lazy and inconsiderate on the part of the designer.

Followed closely by a huge graphic with no information.

Does anybody read Jakob Nielsen's web site on web page usability? The following link, although a little old, is what inspired this post.

BTW, I think Anandtech and especially these forums are excellent examples of good web page design.

I hate those webpages made by amatures that have an all black background and will have red text that is like 30pt size.. and they have all these animated GIF's of blood dripping and skulls and stuff.. can't stand them.

Here is a black web page that I bet you would like: arstechnica. It's very readable. I love the design, it's different in a good way.

Looping animations, ActiveX controls and images that are required to be displayed in order to navigate somewhere. Those three things piss me off to no end.

especially the ones where you close the page, then another pops up, then you close that page, then two pop up, then you close those two then those two each open two of their own so there is four now.

god that is so annoying.

What I can't stand are sites that are super duper slick looking, and yet if your font size is set one bigger than normal, all the fancy graphics split apart in a thousand directions. Yeah, you planned for everything hot shot...

Or sites that are so slick, they don't actually label their buttons or offer any real content, like, say: http://www.toddoldhamjeans.com/

Sites that write articles and do not provide a way to skip through the pages(IOW, you have to click through every page to get to the one you are interested in(which, since they also do not provide an index, you have to find the article by accident). Also sites that have pages a mile long with tons of pics(a certain Tech Review site comes to mind(definitely not AT) that takes forever to load. As well as sites that do not make thumbnails of the pics and it takes forever for the small pics to load(because they are actually full size). If you can't tell by now, I am still on Dial-Up.:disgust:

What worse than sites that have under pop'ups adds..... Sites that have under pop'ups adds with Sound. There's nothing more bone chilling than being in the office and having under pop'ups starting to blaze away with sound. Those adds will be cursed in the worst way to hell.

Adds now are getting even more bigger, I really don't mind but..... for example at Msnbc.com now show adds and have delays for you to see the add before linking to the spot you want to see. Obviously I don't go there anymore.

Also, those stupid web pages that 'lock' you in -- where if you hit the back button, you don't go back, but the page just reloads itself... those piss me off to no end!

Mine has to be the mouse trap sites & the sites that put links in your favorites.
The very worst is the ones that make themselves your HOMEPAGE....

This is all on winXP home.

I hate when you go to a company's website to look up a product...

And instead of just being able to just pick from a list of all products that the company makes, you have to search for what you are looking for on separate pages like "Corporate Products", "Small Business Products" etc..
