Millionaire Next Door book indicates most millionaires are self-employed. Which means you give up free hours (non-typical business hours usually) for the sake of money. To that I ask... what's the point ?

Some people like to bust their @$$ so they can retire early. But what are you really going to enjoy at ~45 years old ? I'd rather enjoy a "normal" life through my good years.

I have a plan to start my own business but the business hours will be from 4pm-11pm. I just got married and that wouldn't be good for our future kids either.

You really think that a 25 year old working a 40 hour week making $50K can enjoy life more that a 45 year old with a retirement income of $200K?
20 years buddy... 20 years of fun while the business owner busts his ass all those years. My memory doesn't even span 20 years - that's a LONG time. I don't care if the then 45-year old has 2 yachts and owns an island. He can enjoy that with his 45-year old woman too. Not my thing. Besides, who's to say 2 younger people combining for $100-$150k per year can't enjoy something similar ?

Don't get me wrong (like the people in the last thread about this did). I have investments and savings. But I sure as hell am not going to kill myself during my good years ONLY to enjoy my graying hair days.

I see plenty of gray-hair dudes driving around in Porsches and Vipers. It only brings one thing to mind... I honestly don't envy them.

Who says these self employed people are working their asses off? You have this misconception that running your own business means you have to work hard to succeed. Why not do both? Run a business and have fun? In my experience small business owners have more freedom and wealth.

A 25 year old making 200k working for himself can enjoy his life at least as well as if not better than a 25 year old working 40 an hour making 50k.

meh, the joy of sending my kids to a good school and enjoying the love of family and friends would top any amount of money blown while I was in my 20s.

Stuff is just stuff, but family and friends are where its at.

Really? What do you plan to be driving around in when you're that age? It's only a matter of time my friend.

marry rich...but seriously if I become a millionare so bit it, I just want financial security which is obviously hard to come by. I want to live modestly.

I think your perception of self-employed people is really malformed. The self-employed people I know consider the freedom of choice more valuable than anything imagineable. I have the choice to do as I wish: to take the day off; to go to the park and work; and, whether or not to accept the work of a client. My future is in my hands, and my hands only. I also work generally a lot less hours than I used to, and my stress levels are nothing like they were.

In general, salaried workers are working a lot harder than I am. I can't imagine spending 20 years of my life working like that to gain so little, and it's not all about money.

pay off my debt, live the same poor drudging lifestyle and watch my millionare status become a moot point as inflation kills all my hopes and aspirations.
