What's wrong with this re-activation deal with MS?

Last nite I just changed or upgraded my video card in my AMD rig using x64 O/S. Upon restarting it asks me to re-activate the window o/s within 3 days period. WTH is up with that?

Apparently you crossed the too much new hardware in a certain period threshold. No biggie. Just re-activate.

Why crack something you legally own? I've had to call Microsoft to activate and I'm guessing it takes less time to do the legal method than it does to crack it.

Why don't you really get rid of the annoyance once and for all and switch to linux? What's even worse than not supporting a company for their work is probably continuing to use their product when they make their consumers jump through hoops and treat them like crap.

The whole, what, two or three clicks and 20 seconds to re-activate online? Those are some rough hoops to jump through... I'm not sure I can manage that. 20 seconds saved is worth it to switch everything to a new OS!! Switching to Linux is much faster than that! Maybe he's activate too many times in the past 120 days and he has to call Microsoft. Uh oh!! Five minutes, tops, down the drain...

Activation is hardly that bad.

That being said, I have a Linux box. i like it just fine. I'm not going to switch from Windows because what I do right now is easier with Windows (admitedly because I am far more familiar with Windows, and already own all the software). Every OS has it's share "hoops" and difficulties. In terms of difficulty, activation is not very difficult.

Umm, this person seems to admit so himself that's its an annoyance. I agree, I reformat occasionally and I would be tired of calling MS or buying a new copy of Microsoft Windows after activating three times. It is annoying.

But you're missing the point of my post. He continues to support MS buy using their product. And doesn't pay the price of using Windows. If you want to use Windows or have access to Microsoft's DirectX for games, BUY IT. Personally I hate using windows now and I would rather NOT support them, so what did I do? Stopped buying Microsoft products. Its really that simple. I even game up gaming for it.
