What's wrong with my stoopid system!?!?!

ASUS GeForce 6800 DLX

HP 9300 Burner (internal)
8 Port USB hub with 5 devices connected to it

My problem is this. Everytime I boot into the OS (Ive tried em all, win95, win98, win98se, winme, win2k) I get some type of BSOD after about 2-10 minutes doing random things. The BSOD error messages vary with the OS so I wont list em all. Ive reformatted, reinstalled, everything. But, if I boost the VCORE from its default of 1.65 to 1.70 everything works just fine. WTF?!?!?! I have have 6 fans blowing in my case at various locations for optimal flow. Could this be a because I may be sucking to much power from the power supply? Its an A-Open 300w PS. Why would the system be more stable by raising the CPU voltage half a volt? I dont want to burn the chip out prematurely! Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about P3's in general but by raising the voltage by .5 won't do much harm, if it's stable at a higher voltage then raise it up a bit. The reason for that might be cause the mobo doesn't support that P3 at the default voltage but i might be wrong, like I said i'm an AMD man so i don't know much about Intel.

Peace,
Nore

I'm not sure but try having everything BUT the usb devices hook in, nuke those drivers. I thought there was a VIA USB patch somewhere.. anyone confirm ?

i read it here before that on Piii you can go as high as 1.85 volts. 1.7 no big deal ur cpu will last you 5 years minimum but by then you probably upgrade it to 1ghz. 😉

Yep Snow, I have the latest drivers for everything. I got my hands on a p3 733 today. I will try this chip at 1.65 and see what happens.

It probably is the power supply being pushed, I had a similar situation with a 230watt PS and a 2.2v k6-2 500 that would only run stable at 2.4v. After upgrading my PS in anticipation of an Athlon, my k6-2 500 ran fine @ 2.2v.

I'd just keep the voltage up and not worry about it.
