What's wrong with my Radeon?

I have a Radeon 8500 installed in my machine, which is running XP Pro. No matter what driver version I use, the video acts really weird, showing ghost images of windows that aren't open, blanking out the screen for a split second, and general weirdness. Does this have something to do with the XP drivers, or maybe is there something wrong with my card? My system specs are below:

Athlon 1.4GHz
Asus A7M266
512MB Crucial DDR RAM
Liteon 40X/12X/48X CDR
Soundblaster Live
Radeon 8500 (obviously)
Maxtor 40GB Hard Drive

Thanks!

Well the monitor is brand new, and up until I swapped my GeForce2 GTS for this it was working flawlessly.

Sounds like you may have a conflict with your old drivers. tenoc is right, check out Rage3D, and take a look in the forums. A clean install on your video drivers is important, especially when swapping different boards.

I will check rage3d tonight, but actually this is a fresh install of XP with the Radeon drivers being the only ones ever installed. Does anyone else get these problems when using an 8500 with XP?

I'll bet you that the card is defective. Did it ever work correctly? I had an original Radeon VIVO that would always corrupt the display the 3rd time DirectDraw was invoked. Not the 1st time, not the second time, but always the 3rd time. With every driver version and every version of Windows. This went on for months, because that's how long it took for me to try all those possible combinations. I finally contacted ATI's tech support and after 2 days of questions and answers (with very prompt response to my e-mails, BTW) they told me to send the card to them and they sent me a new one that works great.
