What's wrong with my guitar?

This is presently happening only on the two thinnest strings, though every now and then I swear I hear it on the third.

When playing (or trying to play, since I suck pretty bad :) ), whenever I strum/pluck/whatever the two thinnest strings, I hear a slight rattle, which seems to come from the bottom of the guitar where the strings come out of.

I don't believe it was always like this, however perhaps I just never noticed till now.

Any idea what's going on here? Forgive my lack of guitar knowledge, I'm a n00b :p

It'll affect the sustain. Make sure the strings are in the notches too. Had that happen to me.

three potential problems:

1) worn frets. if it only happens on certain fret positions, check to see if the frets are dented or worn down.

2) if it happens when the string is open (not freted), then check the nut (when the string ends on the headstock). this may be worn or broken.

3) your neck has warped or bowed slightly, meaning it has gotten either too straight, or is actually bending backwards a little bit, causing the middle of the neck to stick out into the strings. generally, you need a little bowing, so that the middle of the neck is farther from the strings than either end. but we're talking millimeters. changes in temp or strings can affect this to the point where it needs to be adjusted.

either way, the problem is that the strings are too low relative to some or all of the frets.

EDIT: yeah, and the bridge of course. the bridge itself can be raised, or on many guitars, you can raise and lower individual strings at the bridge. but check the other stuff first, to make sure you aren't dealing with wear and tear issues.

More than likely buzzing caused from the strings being too low and thus vibrating against the frets when you pick it. The solution to this is to raise your bridge.

Take it to a shop and they will fix the problem.
