Hi folks,

Here's the problem.. one day i turn on my computer, and I run a program that I needed to back up files for. When I tried to back it up, my A: just kinda hung for a good 30 sec or so and then just said "drive A: is not ready." I tried other disks, and the same error kept coming up. Turns out no matter what I do, inside or outside of the program, my A: drive is just inaccessible. but when I tried to boot up using a floppy, it works fine.. what's going on here? I tried running virus scanners in my C:, but everything is ok.. I cant even run scandisk and virus scanners on A: because i just get the same error.. help please? Thanks!

I'd like to know the answer to this one also. Mine does the same or similar thing. I can usually use my floppy normally for a few minutes after bootup but then I gat a message that reads either "Drive A is not ready" or "The Disk in drive A: is not formatted" even though I know the damn disk has data on it. WTF

Have you tried updating on the latest 4in1 driver? Have you installed the mini-port driver? If you did, try running the CPU at stock speed and see if the same problem exists. If the same problem exists, then maybe it's time to buy a new floppy drive. Teac is the only brand when it comes to floppy drives.

Do you have a spare floppy drive to put in there to trouble shoot with. Try a new ribbon cable, or reseat the current ribbon cable.
If those two options don't work, could be a heating problem on the motherboard with the floppy controller. Had one like that once with a new Motherboard.

Do you mean that Teac are the only people who drives, or they make good drives compared to others?

Panasonic also make a floppy drive.

Well I was playing around with system settings in control panel, and without knowing it while installing some other goodies, windows reinstalled the floppy disk controllers. I guess something corrupted the drivers because a LOT of other files and drivers have been either corrupted or deleted somehow.. that still remains a mystery to me, but all I know is, now my floppy's are working fine.

Ronstang: You might want to try the same thing.. try going into control panel and reinstalling your drivers for the floppy drive controllers. Hope that helps! Thanks to the rest of you as well for your inputs.
