Please, need of help. Just got a new computer bout a month ago.

My rig: Athlon XP 1900+
Msi KT3 Via mobo
Geforce 3 ti200
512mb corsair/samsung 333 DDR
Seagate Baracuda 7200 rpm, 80 gb
Thermaltake Volcano 7+ hsf
Psu - Allied 300w
16x dvd
32x burner
Viewsonic 19" A90f

My computer was fine untill I started to raise my fsb (cuz I got my new hsf). I used the fuzzy logic 3 software for the motherboard to do this and I had it run auto. Eventually my computer rebooted during the test, but it did it like 5 times (it would load MS XP and once it did it would restart again). After about the 5th time, I just hit the reset and went to the BSOD. To make a long story short, my computer is not stable anymore. It won't even run at the 133 fsb like it's supposed to with out getting the BSOD!

I checked everything from temp. (40-43c during loads) to voltage (5v rail around 4.7-4.8)-may be low. I even reseted my cmos on the mobo and nothing worked. Eventually I had to format my c drive because my windows system file became corrupted. I reinstalled windows....but still not working. I had my all of my drivers updated too because of reinstallation.

The highest fsb I have been running on is like around 128! I'm thinking that my psu is my problem. So what the heck is going on?

Oh by the way, you guys think it's good enough to use a regular silicone based thermal grease?

Thanks, I appreciate any help.
:(

My guess is that you pushed the machine too far and corrupted the contents of the HD. The problems you are describing are totally consistent with a corrupted HD. If this is the case, you will need to reformat and start again.

Before doing this though, I would wait to see if anyone else agrees with me. :)

Well it sounds like he has already ruled out hdd as he reformatted...

I would definitely look into the PS...It seems a little weak of a PS to try to oc an 1900+ xp...HOw high did you try to raise fsb????

NEVER EVER use that Fuzzy Logic crap...It is pure crap. One of the worst I have dealt with. Never use windows based overclocking utilities, period.....

I think the 5v rail is within specs but could be an issue....Try unplugging any unneeded devices....try one stick of am if you have multiples....The 5v and 3.3v rail are critical to amds so look at those carefully.

What were the ram settings at then and now...Do you have an extra ram stick around??? Try it...Bad ram or damaged ram will never allow you to install windows properly and could be a culprit. BSOD are common with ram....

Try memtest86, which is a dos based program...you don't even enter windows...boot up off of a startup disk and run multiple passes through the memory for say a couple hours. If you don't get any errors it is unlikely the cause...
