What's wrong with my comp?

FAQ

My computer crashes very frequently. Here's some examples:
When I alt-tab out of starcraft to check aim or something the resolution changes or some crap like that. Half the time when I try to get back to starcraft the window closes on me.
After watching 4-6 movie clips on my computer I usually get an illegal operation error or the entire screen goes blue with the fatal error screen or whatever and I'm forced to restart a majority of the time.
Quicktime can't even start, I get an illgal operation 100% of the time before it can start.
Disk defragger has TONS of those "damaged or corrupted" clusters on it and I've run scan disk (on thourogh) but nothing has come of it.
My computer spontaniously restarts and I know it's not something hitting the restart button because that doesn't even work.
My own screen saver gives me illegal operations (the blank screen one)

I have an Athlon 600
GeForce ddr
128 megs pc 100 ram
windows 98

Some look like symptoms of a faulty/not powerful enough power supply, corrupted hard drive , or video drivers. Also are your cpu temp's in a reasonable field?

Sounds like a faulty power supply.

If you do not have at least a 250W supply, you need one.

A small/local computer store should be able to sell you a 300W supply for like $40 or so.

ok, about your screen resolution changing when you hop out of starcraft, that always happens unless you run at 640x480 all the time, that's what starcraft runs at. All your parts are very power hungry. How much of a supply you use? i got my enermax 330 watt and i love it. If you have enough power it may just be time to reformat, hard drives almost always get full of conflicting crap and need to be cleaned every now and then.

I only have a 250 w ps, but I think that might be the problem

it's about $30 for a 330 watt one?

it is more important to get a good (clean) power supply rather than one with a higher wattage!

check AMD's site for a athlon approved power supply before buying one.

Avoid any Deer power supply ! It's a piece of junk. I got power problems lately with this crap. Any suggestions on a good stable 300W power supply ?
