a couple days ago my computer went down. when i tried to start it, it would power up, but instead of the sharp, crisp "beep" I am used to, it would just make a lower, longer beep, keep beeping at various intervals, and in general do nothing else.
Yesterday I decided to troubleshoot a bit. I reset the cmos and it powered up all the way to windowsxp. Sadly shortly after it crashed again, saying there was a problem with the network timing (the error window said it was reported by CoolMon). The computer would not restart again after that, even if I reset the cmos
I then took out the mobo and replaced the processor (an athlon 1.4) with a spare (another athlon 1.4) which may or may not be working. After placing everything back in the case, I tried to power up, the fans and HD seemed to be working, but there was no beep and the monitor remained in the idle state.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with my computer? Thanks.
