Hey guys,

I am looking to pick up a few extra monitors for my multi-view audio recording machines.
I see monitors in the papers and stuff for $20 all the time 15s, 17s, etc....

Whats the downside to cheap monitors exactly?

The main thing I am concerned with if anything is health issues.
If they have any weird negative effect on the eyes or radiation of some weird sort?
just wondering....hard to imagine people spending $500 + dollars on monitors when you can see almost the same exact
thing for twenty bucks

They mostly have really crappy refresh rates, colour bleed = headaches if stared out for long period of times.

85Hz on monitors makes my eye's hurt after about 15 minutes. That's why I went flat-panel.

Lower contrast, poor geometry, low refresh rates, lousy color, etc. These all add up to more eyestrain.

Add to that list lower life expectancy, and often quality degradation over time. Many "el-cheapo" monitors will work decently for the first year (or 6 months) but then the colours start to get crappier, or the monitor will just "flick" off for a split second. There are so many little quirks with cheap monitors.

85mhz gives you a headache? is that considered low?
i dont think ive ever had my refresh rates any higher than that if even that high.
i guess i never understood them. they usually look the same to me in all refresh rates
