Okay, my computer (IBM T21 w W2K) has been acting funky, so I tried to scan the disk. I've got the 20 gig hard drive divided into two partitions, Windows 2000 Pro on C at about 6 gigs and programs on D with the rest. When I try to check for errors on either C or D I get a box that pops up and says

"The disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule the the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?"

So of course I click yes. If I do this on my D partition, it'll check for errors just fine, but on my C drive, it says

"Cannot open volume for direct access. Windows has finished checking the disk"

then it boots up normally.

I've tried booting into Safe Mode, but it just hangs at the Starting Windows progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

Does anybody have any sort of clue what the he!!s going on??? TIA

Try using the Recovery Console from the Win2k boot CD. If it's having trouble with the individual volume, then there may be a partition table problem (and oddly, sometimes that won't stop the system from booting).
