I am one of the few whose still using ICQ 99b. Starting about halfway through year 2001, it hasn't been working really well. There is some connectivity issues. The second problem is offline message doesn't clear from the server after they're read. I have to go to web ICQ and clear it otherwise the same message pops up as new every time I start ICQ. It does this on every computer. Anybody else having this problem? I really love my 99b. Anything newer is ad infected and there isn't much good tweaks for 'em.


edit: ICQ isn't really popular anymore anyhow and I think it started to suck when it merged with AOL :disgust:



AOL acquires Mirabilis This is very sad. AOL ruined ICQ and ICQ is soon going to be degraded into AIM crap.
 
I used icq 99b as well until recently, when i discovered I couldn't log in. I installed the newest one (2000b i believe) and by looking at my traffic logs, i saw that when i was running 99b it only connected to 1 ip where with 2000b it connected with 2. So i switched to Miranda Icq. It's smaller then 99b, has ALL the important functions of ICQ, and doesn't come loaded with all the other stuff Trillian does if you simply need an icq client. Also, it came up with the transparency idea WAY before Trillian 😛 🙂
 
They fiddled with protocol a bit, and also made it so that newer clients by default do not accept direct connections from older ones. I also saw rumors that the servers discard most of the messages going from old clients. This kinda forced me to use 2001b on WIndoze, and the latest CVS build of LICQ on Linux..
the 1.0.4 version of LICQ stopped working at just about the same time as Windows version, but thankfully it got patched fairly quickly 🙂
