I'm not sure where it all got started from. In the 70's it was perfectly normal to have multiple generations living in the same house. Interestingly with the economy getting worse there has been a return to this. It really works out well for everyone involved. The older people have someone to care for them and the younger people don't have to carry such a large financial burden. I had a house and my parents stayed with me for about 7 years in early 2000. It was just a practical arrangement. They were aging and I enjoyed the company. If you are living with your parents and they are still treating you like a kid then yes get out of that arrangement because it will do you no good. However if your parents treat you like an adult like mine did then it is no different than sharing a home with other adults.
