So first I thought you need a master card, then I thought you need a special motherboard they started making after they discontinued the master cards....now I guess CrossFire is software supported since catalyst 6.11?
So I'm still a little confused regarding what's compatible and what's not. The latest two links say that crossfire support can be accomplished totally in software? If I can find any other x1900XT / XTX, or x1950XT / XTX,what kind of motherboard would I need? A special ATI CrossFire enabled motherboard, or a more general 2x 16xPCIe board?
I have a 512mb x1900xt right now. It seems like the best way to spend $200 would be on a CrossFire setup. Anything less wouldn't give me any better framerates, and anything more and I'd be better off buying a high end current gen video card.
As of right now I've been an x1900 owner for a long time, I adopted pretty early and got a 512mb card for $280. One of the indicators that I made a good decision was that there wasn't a sensible upgrade option for a long time...I had a very good price/performance ratio, and right now it's still competitive but I want an upgrade. I feel like I'm stuck because I'm not going to get a significant improvement in framerate without coughing out extra unnecessary cash in the form of an early adopter tax.
I was also wondering if I actually spent ~$200 on a CrossFire setup now, if I could upgrade that in the future...for example two hd2900xt or whatever 3xxx is coming out soon.
