what's with the guys in parking lots that offer to fix your dent?

what's the gimmic?
has anyone had a good experience?

I'm curious because I've been approached by the speaker guys in the white van.
byt the leather jacket guys from "France"
and by the guy who got two huge couches that accidentaly fell off a truck.
But the guys that want to fix your car?
Real? or scam?

My bro stupidly let one of them do it. Was a hack job, supposedly the guy popped out some dents and then caked over the whole thing with some type of putty-compound. said all that was needed was some sanding to smooth it out and a paint job.

Took it to a mechanic i new several months later when i had some spare time, the mechanic yelled at me in exasperation. Said the whole thing need scraped out, and the dents themselves had to be remolded.
