Great sources!!!!!!

Oh and the second link is nothing more than regurgitation of the CR findings.

Here?s a quick rundown of the most and least reliable new cars (according to Consumer Reports) in ten different categories

Just ignore him. He is just a troll that keeps saying the same thing over and over...

It's a thread I started. How does that make ME the troll?

I kept trying to get it back on topic. Forget the f-ing cars.

If you're not going at least TRY to add something useful, stfu.

As far as computer parts go I don't have much loyalty, but when it comes to cars I am blindly loyal to BMW. (Only prior to 2003, the new BMWs look like crap.)

Look at it this way - C2D came out and is superior in just about every way to AMDs current chips. If no one jumped ship it wouldn't drive AMD as hard to bounce back and match/beat Intel.

If you don't believe that, lets look at Automakers. Ford, GM, Chrysler have been churning out crap for years, resting on the "buy american" selling factor. The imports however are getting better thus more and more people are buying them. Toyota and Honda are making the best cars on the market, so i buy them. I'd LOVE to buy from an American maker, but my loyalty rests with performance and quality.

What makes you decide to stay loyal to a company when their product is inferior?

Toyota is making horrible cars. The only Japanese car company putting out a good line of cars is Honda. The rest are pumping out mediocre cars sprinkling a decent car here and there and relying on their name brand to sell.

And when it comes to brand loyalty some people may just like a companies product and are happy with what they have. If the product works for them, who cares if theres a better performing product out there.

Some things I have loyalty towards just because I like and enjoy their products. Others, I buy on a price basis. (Like groceries, for example, but even then I tend to only buy from Kroger)

Not that the original intent of the thread was about cars in general or anything....

Edit: good post above. THAT is the kind of stuff i want to see!! Not just "you're wrong"

So quoting someone with an obvious bias (howtobuyamerican.com and "The power of consumer patriotism") passes for a good post these days?

He makes some good points and has some good quotes from execs, though.

Since I don't drive a bunch of cars (my daily driver is a freakin' 1992 Buick :p), all I really know is that it seems like that most of the time when C&D complains about fit and finish problems, it seems to be a domestic model more often than not.

In some cases it's preference, I buy Coke because I like it better. Since I can't tell the difference between Mountain Dew and Coke's "Mellow Yellow", I'll buy the Mellow Yellow when it's available to support the Coke brand.

In some cases it's a history of good experiences with the products, like my preference for NGK spark plugs or Bosch wipers (NGK plugs tend to run a half heat-range cooler than the other brands I've tried in my 951, which is helpful, and Bosch wipers have lasted the longest for me before they start streaking).

In some cases it's a sentimental connection. I always buy Hunts Ketchup because my grandmother worked there when she was alive.

2 motors:
1: 200 c/i 3liter 200hp, 200tq 28mpg
2: 170 c/i 2.5liter 200hp, 200tq 30mpg

Similar torque/hp curves... assuming you keep everything stock, which would you choose?
Please tell me of a single 2.5L that gets 200hp/200tq and 30mpg with a similar torque curve as a comparable 3.0L. FYI: the Camry's 2.4L makes 158bhp and gets 24/34. The Civic Si's 2.0L might make 197bhp and get 23/32, but its torque curve is outrageously peaky, maxing out at only 139 ft-lbs. Short of forced induction, you'll find that type of power output similar for that size displacement.

I don't think you understand engine design.

Didnt Honda and Toyota just get caught boosting HP and mileage ratings?

You wanna talk brand loyalty check out hospitals. There is one thing that people are NOT afraid to switch up on. They have a bad experience they WILL goto another hospital system.

I'm afraid I am brand loyal to Ford and DCX because I have family members that work for each.

However Ford has some nice products out FINALLY...Esp the Fusion, Mustang and the brand new Ford Edge

I hope to buy an Edge in the spring as long as the initial quality is good. (yay for A plan)

Other things I'm not brand loyal whatsoever. I buy what I perceive as best based on reviews and reviews from friends/family.

Surgeons and MD's are even worse. They tend to latch on to a drug or a device manufacturer and never consider better and/or cheaper alternatives.

I'm somewhat brand loyal when it comes to fast food. I've had enough bad experiences at Wendy's and BK to make me avoid eating at either.

Yup, Toyota's 3.0 V6 went from 190 to 200 to 210 and then right back down to 190. Of course, GM had an inaccurate figure as well. They claimed the XLR-V (iirc) made 440HP when it really made 469HP. Oops! :D
