Whats with runners wanting to run without their clothes lately??

First, the idiot that thought he could run the Flying Pig Marathon naked last week. Got tased, btw, because he ignored the officer's orders and tried to run around them.

Then, a HS coach gets fired because his track team was running without shirts. Oh the humanity!

The shirt controversy started two weeks ago when someone complained to the school about the boys track team running without shirts.
The school department made it very clear they didn’t like that, and told the coach someone may be kicked off the team. But there was no official rule set

Its pretty common for male runners to run without shirts, not sure what the school administrators got so worked up over. It was a practice session, not a meet or competition. IMO, who cares if the runners wear shirts or not.

from reading the article, it sounds like office politics of the school.

i have to laugh.

When I ran cross-country in high school, my shirt came off around mile 1. I finished every race "half naked".

less chafing.

I'm sure nipple bleeding sucks, too.

I remember watching the end of a half marathon once. "hm, that's an odd looking shirt, with two red stripes running down the front."

Two minutes later - those aren't stripes! That's blood, running down from... 😱

After completing over a dozen full marathons, a number of halves, and an ultra, I've never had chaffing on my nipples. Used to have some chaffing around my genitals from my clothing, but that was resolved as I learned more bout proper attire and my skin toughened out.

I never had a problem with that either. It's not common at all. But I'm sure you've seen the occasional guy that bleeds after a long race. The above was the the most extreme thing I've ever seen, just crazy weird. IIRC, the guy was a pretty good runner, finished in the top 5, maybe around 1:22 or something. (sort of small local race) Really surprised he didn't have a way around it, band aids or whatever.

I had bloody nipples after a 20k race. We trained all the time in high school without shirts and the girls regularly ran in just sports bras, no tops.

It was a good sport.

🙂

So that's what The Flying Pig has been up to lately. :sneaky:

You can't have guys running around school with their shirts off, all the male teachers will turn gay.

In HS XC, we almost always ran workouts with our shirts off. For meets and competition, however, we always kept on our uniforms. Girls also regularly ran in sports bras and such during practices.

Clothes just get in the way when you run and slow you down. And nipple chafing does suck! I have to put band-aids on my nipples anytime its under 60 and damp.

I remember the guys in high school would almost all run shirtless if it was over 45 degrees out. Nobody got their panties in a bunch then, but now they all have to keep their shirts on. I would hate to have run in 70+ degree weather with a shirt; I get overheated when its 55 degrees!
