What's with people and their damn car alarms? I hate how people turn them on and off!

God people first of all: Car alarms aren't that cool. We've ALL seen them before. So, why is it that when somebody parks their car they wait until they are a good 5-15 meters away before turning on the alarm? Afraid the car will explode? And when going to their car people never press it just before getting to car. It's always a good distance away. I just don't understand it. It seems that people are still in awe of radio transmitters.

I assume by car alarm he means "car alarm"

you know: "click" "beep beep" when the alarm is armed or turned off?

I have no idea why doing it from 30 feet away from the car bothers him, though :)

Car alarm keyless entry, either one.

It bugs me because when somebody is walking from their car it's as if they are deliberately waiting so that then out of nowhere their car will bleep and blip and people will turn around and wonder why this car in the middle of nowhere is doing this, then the car alarm owner can think they are cool.

It just really bugs the hell out of me and I think that is why.

skoorb, you really have a lot of pent up anger don't you? ;-) Actually I am one of those people, but I do it because I am an idiot and have usually forgotten what kind of rental car I have and am trying to find it. :-D Nothing like walking out of a hospital into a several acre parking lot and realizing you have no idea what color or even make of car you are driving......

Actually you guys are right. I have a LOT of pent up feelings towards a lot of things around me. I think perhaps I need some medication. I don't stay up at night, and perhaps i'm being melodramatic but this does annoy me enough to warrant my typing it out :disgust:

These are usually the same self-important people who flaunt their cell phone at work. Then in the middle of the meeting they are the ones who excuse themselves to get an "important" call in the hall. I'd like to hear what they really say: "Whole milk or 2%? Ok, and you want the extra absorbent with wings, in the green and white package. Ok, honey."

What would be the purpose of keyless entry if they used it when they were right next to the car? Using the key would be just as easy.

I just don't understand why the horn has to honk when the doors lock via keyless entry. That little beep may be short, but it's still usually way too loud.

I believe it is to let people know that the car is locked. A deterrant. Its easier to steal a car that isnt locked, which means it didnt honk.

And now we can all agree that keyless entry is damn near a waste of time.

Actually, I use it to keep from scratching up the area around the keyhole.

But then again, I have mine set so that it does NOT beep/honk/make a damn sound when I use it (except for the panic button). They way I can tell it worked: I usually can hear the doors locking mechanism, and the front and rear lights blink.

I don't see why you're freaking out because of a car alarm? What's the big deal. *beep* *beep* ... go on with your life. :D

Mine makes a high pitched beep when armed/locked, but you probably wouldn't hear it unless you were pretty close to the car. Other Acura owners know what I'm talking about.

it's convient and quicker. saves the paint as said, but it also unlocks both doors so the passenger doesn't have to stand around waiting for you to unlock your door, get in, and flip the power lock button. not to mention it's safer, so someone can't just jimmy open the door.

as for the beep, you may as well bitch and whine about birds chirping or walking by people playing music you hate. there's nothing you can do about it, why spend time even bothering with the frustration, you're not going to live very long if you stress about pet peeves. it's a quick beep beep that takes maybe a second of your life, get the hell over it, there are more annoying and troubling things in life than a man's car alarm. i don't think anyone thinks they're pimp because they can make a beep beep sound with a push of a button, i doubt anyone's doing it to be cool. sometimes i'll walk half a block away before arming mine to test the range on it. i actually have a silent arm on my alarm as well.

Ummmmm, no. I have keyless entry and I like it and I will continue to use it.

1) It's easier to hit a little button than slide a key into a slot when you are carrying lots of stuff. Same applies to opening the trunk.
2) Locking your keys in your car when you have keyless entry requires much more stupidity than locking your keys in a car without it.
3) I can hold down the unlock button on my keyless entry thingamabob and it will roll down the windows. Quite nice when you live in Florida, as you can let some of the 120+ degree air escape before you get to your car.

By the way, I use mine from 15-20 feet too. Why? Because it would be pointless to walk to the car, stop, pull out keys, hit button, enter car.

Oh, and mine makes no noise.

If you want to complain about something, complain about the jerks who have their car alarms set to go off if someone so much as breathes on their car. Those are really annoying, especially if you live in an apartment. :|

or when you turn off the engine and about to get out of the car when you realize you haven't rolled up the windows yet. you have to stick the key back in and wait for them to roll up before you can get moving again, it's nice to be able to leave the car, roll the windows up outside the car and arm the sucker.

At least on my last 3 cars, the horn beeps once if everything is ok and twice if you have a door ajar, or you left your lights on.

Skoorb, hire a masseuse to work out some of that tension....;)
