What's with my radeon 9800 pro?

I got this refurbished from newegg, but apparently refurbished means returned to them or something. Here is what it looks like:

It looks ok in the bios though. I am wondering if this is a driver or hardware issue... I am confused. I tried to install the drivers and then it wouldn't even boot to windows, it would freeze up. I put my old radeon 9500 back in and I'm running ok now.

"Newegg.com does not test any product, including refurbished items. Refurbished components are therefore only tested by the original manufacturer. Due to the varying quality of manufacturer testing, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING REFURBISHED PRODUCTS."

Ding ding ding. Return the card to Newegg.

That sucks. I would never put full confidence in a Newegg refurb, but the ratio of good to bad usually falls heavily into the former category. Maybe you'll get lucky with the next one and actually receive a working card and the accessories.

I have never returned anything to newegg, do they send a replacement for a refurbished item, or just give a credit?

Before returning it, try running the latest version of Driver Cleaner, then reinstalling the latest cats. Might also want to check the bios. Could be a failed flash to XT or a fried chip.

Anyway, people are limitlessly stupid about what they do to their stuff & soulless about shedding responsibility for it. As such, I don't buy used or non-factory refurb.

Okay, what loser returned that board to Newegg and claimed it was still good? :| Yeah I guess Newegg really should start chacking these but still... you don't return a defective product and tell Newegg that it's still usable, you tell them its defective.. grrr..

I'd just return that and try again, hopefully you get a good one this time. 🙂

I just can't get it to work properly in Windows. I've tried Driver Cleaner and the newest drivers a couple times. Strange that it works in Knoppix though. I've even gone so far as to try a fresh format on a different hard drive, to see if I had any weird driver issue. As soon as I got to the windowish part of the setup the crazy artifacts and gibberish started showing up.
