I have this system on my atx mid tower w/250w power supply:

asus k7m, 700mhz slot a thunderbird
128mb pc100
32mb gf2 gts
6x dvd/dxr3 decoder
sb live value
2x2x12x cd-rw
vikings components isa 56k modem
20gb 7200rpm hdd ata/66

This has been *rock solid stable* for 4 months now, on damn near all day every day.

I purchased a kt7 raid and 1ghz thunderbird and just made the mobo/cpu switch, only booting with the motherboard, cpu, video, memory, cd, and floppy. It posted on first attempt, but after saving the settings in the bios it attempted to restart (i think) and it just goes blank. shutt it off then turn it on and it doesnt post. I shut it off again, put the power supply switch to 'off', hit the power switch, turn power supply switch 'on' hit the power switch and then it posts.

I wont get into my install problems/etc, Ill save that for another thread, but will buying this case solve that problem mabye?

thanks for any advice

250w seems a little low for a big athlon system.

[edit]okay, some elaboration because i felt bad just saying the power supply isn't enough. unplug the cdrom and burner to take some of the power burdon off your ps and then try booting. if it boots all the way, then you know you don't have a strong enough ps. if you messed with the bios, try changing the settings back to default and rebooting.

yeah, 250W is just not enough for an athlon system. Even for my current system, it just wasn't enough to handle the cpu, and hd's, and ide drives. wish you much luck with your computer problem man.

3rd times the charm... I think your powersupply has been compromised. It probably doesn't have the capabilities to put out the same power anymore. You should get a 300-400watt PS.

I had a friend with a simililar problem. Try your Memory settings.
Those Via chipsets are very picky....other then that, it is probably
wise to get an 330W Enermax PS....

definitely. I had a 235W Antec on my Celeron466, and as soon as I put a 32MB GTS in there it was having problems. Got the Antec PP303X, and it's running great. if you're considering a new case, look around for a good antec case with the PP303X power supply. I ended up paying about $45 for this power supply after fast shipping, and I've found decent Antec cases with it for $70.
