Heres my sitiuation. I had a BH6 for a long time for my old celeron 400. About 9 months ago I upgraded to a 550mhz PIII. IT was fine but I had the extra celeron left so I thought I'd buy another bh6 to build a 2nd PC.
I found out the BH6 was replaced by the BF6 so I bought it. Seemed better than the BH6 anyway. It has worked successfully for 6 months.
Now I get my hands on another PIII and take out the celeron and the PC boots into windows but after 10-15 minutes it locks up tight. I know my way around the bios and all of the hardware settings so I have tried everything. I exchanged the PIII for another one and I have the same problems. My memory is PC100 and that is not the problem. So i gave up and have use the celeron for a while.
Now I got a faster PIII and it bombs too. Whats up? In all of my testing I have found that when I have a PIII in there that the torroids near the capacitors by the slot for the processor get way too hot!! When the Celeron is in there they are very cool. I think this is why it locks up. But what is it about the PIII that causes these to heat up?
Technically the PIII runs off 1.65 volts and that is less than the celerons 2.0 volts. In general the processor is much cooler. Could I just have a bad board?? I have tried everything (different mem, video cards, soundcards, operating systems)......I'm about to just get a new motherboard. Anyone with some last minute ideas....???
Thanks,
Marty
