what's with blockbuster's late fees?

i rented a ps2 game a couple months ago... return it on the date it was due...

a few months later, a couple of my buddies came to town, and wants to play the SAME game, so i went and try to rent it, there was a late fee on it! okay, i thought maybe it takes them a day to get to the stuff in the 'drop box' outside. so i ate it.
i made sure i return it a day before this time.

yesterday, wanted to rent something, the $%#@ late fee show up again..and it's from the second time! what gives... i tried to explain that since i was charged the first time, i was being careful the second time and return it a day before.

i guess it doesn't matters since it's my word against theirs... thieves....

and what's with the 5 days rental anyway? i only want it for the weekends.... i guess it's just an excuse to charage more.

When you return something, make them scan it in while you are standing there instead of dropping it in the box.

Of course that defeats the whole purpose of having a drop box....

Not everyone can get there during their regular business hours..

Not to mention their fees, and late charges are outragous... I hate Blockbuster...

I'm just buying the DVD's I want anymore... ends up being cheaper in the long run...

The wife was like 5 days late with 3 DVD's and they want $56... I could buy them for that much...

There should just be a point where, you can keep the DVD's, and pay for them...

Rediculous

I am too lazy to hunt for it, but there was a thread concerning this, there is actually a class action lawsuit against blockbuster regarding late fees. I just can't beleive rental rates now anyway, $4 to rent a friggin dvd!?! It's almost as cheap to just go to the damn movies now.

Yeah, I boycotted those f***3rs for years b/c of their bs late fee policy. They cleaned up their action a little bit. But tactics like you posted about are sleezy--they need to feel some pain.

The local BB here changed the time that rentals were due from 6pm to noon and did't bother to tell anyone. I had rented 4 movies a few weeks back and took them in on the day they were on my way home from work so they were there right after 5. Well last week I go to rent a couple of movies and there is a day late fee on every movie. I ask them what was up since I had returned the movies befroe 6pm and the pimply faced kid behind the counter tells me "Our due time is now Noon." I ask when they did that and he said "it's been a few weeks now." No notice to customers, no signs in the store with the new time on it, nothng. I just said to hell with it and left the movies sitting at the counter. I live in a small town, about 35,000 people, and we only have 2 other vid stores that rent DVD's and one of them is about to go under due to BB.

wow, guess i'm not the only one who's dissatisfied with them...

i don't go there for movies anymore.... just for ps2 games and only if i have a rent one get one free....
(trying to make back the money they stole from me )

i miss the old mom & pop stores where you can always get rent 3 get 1 free deals and other stuff.

For awhile I thought Blockbuster was going to wipe out all the smaller rental places. But given their outrageous late fees and other policies we've had some smaller chains really explode again in popularity here. I say "small." Movie Gallery is based here in Alabama and for a long time was just an Alabama-Florida-Georgia thing. Now it's in about 40 states and the third largest rental chain out there. Still, I consider them small since they were just a few years ago. My only beef with them was that they were a little slower than Blockbuster to get on the DVD train. But then again, for awhile (not so much anymore) Blockbuster was trying to carry only Pan & Scan DVDs. Yuck. They've since changed that policy some it looks like.

Yea, that classaction lawsuit was pretty pathetic though. They were giving certificates for free rentals or some dumb crap like that. I didn't even fill out the form and send it in. :|

Blockbuster's late fee policy makes me violently angry. Consequently, I just don't go there. :|

<------ Hollywood Video all the way...

I prefer Video Update. They are very lineant with late fees and once in a while, the staff guys clear it up for me too. Like if I had 2 tapes charged with late fee, the dude will only charge me for one. I think that's a smarter way to do business.

Small town with 35,000? My home town has two rental places with 750 people and the town over has 1900 people and has liek 4 rental places.

Yo,
Dude, there were a BUNCH of lawsuits regarding Blockbuster's late fees.

Look it up.

Blockbuster is flat out evil.

I find their prices outrageous too. It costs $6 to rent a video game from them. What's with that at my hometown I can rent the same game for $3.
