What's with all these new fangled video games?

I bought my step-nephew an Xbox and a bunch of games yesterday. He hooked it up and we started playing..... and it's just too damned complicated for me. I'm 22 and have been playing video games since I was 5. I've gone through NES, Sega Master System, Genesis, SuperNES, Gameboy, Game Gear, PSX, and PC.

Well, needless to say these new games systems with all these analog sticks, dpads, and a dozen buttons are just too much for me. How the hell are you supposed to use both analog sticks while pressing a couple of button at the same time and looking at the screen? The only thing I can compare it to was the first I used a mouse in a FPS (around 1997). It didn't come natural at first, but slowly I got used to it...

Anyway, am I the only one that is overwhemled by games today?

Jugs

btw, I was having problems with some James Bond game on Xbox. Don't remember the name offhand.

I had trouble with Halo for a while, but now I am the grand master champ. All it takes is hard work, love, and dedication.

Nawh.. all the controls become natural soon enough with any game. I LOVE the dual joysticks. Not as good as a mouse and keyboard, but damn close.

Mr. Miyamato of Nintendo believes in making games simple/easy to play but complex and innovative in gameplay. Thats why I love his games. A newbie can pick it up and have fun, while a veteran can enjoy it even more. I think Super Smash Brothers and Pikmin are great examples of such a game.

Jugernot you are a disgrace to gamers and computer geeks the world over. Bow your head in shame and say a dozen "Hail Konami's" (up, up, down, down...) in order to repent.

Yep, it's official... I'm club thumbed! I just tried playing Medal of Honor for my PSX and a dual shock controller..... and my movement was ALL OVER THE PLACE. I press the analog stick a little bit and the damned thing moves all over the place on the screen. I can't seem to make the movement small enough.

Dammit, I am NOT old! :(

Bah. Just take the high road out and say "Controllers are for weenies, learn how to use a Man's Controller (TM)" - and point him at the keyboard+MX500 :)

It just takes practice.

I'm sure you weren't a whiz when you first picked up the NES controller.

22 and you suck!? .. just practice

on xbox there is Fusion Frenzy and a mini game where you manuver your character and a bomb with legs (the name skips me). Not only do you have to move your character so it doesn't get bombed, but you gotta control the bomb to bomb others. It's great.

I don't like the aiming system on joypads. Using those two analog sticks + running + spinning screen = makes me want to toss cookies. This problem doesn't happen to me with keyboard/mouse. Why couldn't they put keyboard/mouse support on the XBox? :(

Just give it a little time and you'll be back to killing at will. I had trouble with the X-Box myself but having played at regular intervals (not owning one myself) I can put up a good fight now.
