I think you people may be mistaken about the H2. Link

Added: It looks like to me that the Land Cruiser is a soccer moms car. Link "Ready for Any Road, Paved or Not" - impressive

most fake sports caars are relatively fuel efficient. are reasonably safe, have low emissions, have bumpers that are at a normal level, don't flip, aren't likely to kill others.

Man, i use to drive my Bronco offroading all the time. Fun as hell until it got flipped. I'm hoping to replace my Mustang with another 4x4 soon.

They are just there to please all the wanna-bes.
Well, companies do generally try to create products that meet consumer demand.
rolleye.gif
That's how you make money.

Whether you like them or you don't, if a type of vehicle sells well, car companies will hop on the bandwagon and make more of them.

If a type of vehicle doesn't sell well, car companies will stop making them.

You can't fault the companies for simply catering to what people want. That's what happens in an open market.

Navigator is a full sized Ford truck with extra seats - if it can't go offroad than nothing can, LOL! Ridoiculous statement!

all i'm saying is that when the time comes and people with these new SUVs have to go off-road, they'll be severly dissapointed at the fact that they can't. Besides, most of these glorified minivans come with street tires.

how about you drive an RSX or RSX-S before you try and rip on it. they're quick, fun to drive cars, dumbass. OH and FYI plenty of RSX-S's are on the track.

SUV - Sports Utility Vehicle

Where does it say must be able to drive through streams and climb up 90 walls. I think it's great that maufactures are building these sort of car based SUVs. Face it 95% of the people that buy SUVs don't need a truck.

What exactly makes them fake?

The aftermarket has responded well though to the XTerra, I must admit that...but I'm not crazy about the XTerra.

I like mine. I even take it off road. Ive done Moab and many trails in BC and Washington state. See my sig for a pic.

Right...

I've seen all these so-called SUVs get stuck in shallow mud; stuck in snow; and sliding down hills. They are nothing more than glorified minivans. Aside from the soccer mom part, other people like them because they're menacing and aggressive. As someone stated earlier, that can give you a leverage on the road.

It's very funny to me to think that most people think that a hummer is an off road vehicle. A few weeks ago I was at my local off road park and saw a hummer club out on the trails, except, they weren't doing anything cuz they were too wide to go through most parts of the park...plus, they had pruning shears and were trimming bushes and branches..WTF?!?!?! Sorry, i can't respect anyone who drives a Hummer(H2) off roading. But i guess i am partial to Jeeps!;)
HMMWVs go through a lot more offroading than you think. I wouldn't say that third world countries have extensive highway systems, do you? :)

Yeah, but look at the vehicles you listed in your first post. You know what the tagline is in the Murano's advertising? "For Adventures in On-roading". And I'm pretty sure I've never seen a Navigator commercial where they tout its off-road capability or show it in the mud. I think they usually show it driving around the city with a Jazz trio playing in the background.
Heck, several companies aren't even calling them SUV's anymore. The BMW X5 is referred to as an "SAV", specifically to make the distinction.

Point being, many of these "SUV"s aren't being marketed as off-road vehicles, so people shouldn't be surprised if they try to go off-road and they're not capable. The car companies aren't trying to fool people in most cases. Plus, anyone that looks at a Murano, MDX, RX330, etc. and thinks they can take on the Rubicon with it is a dumbass anyway.

I think that people that really want/need off-road capability still know which makes to look at and what constitutes a "real" SUV by your definition.

What's a fake SUV?
I don't remember anyone releasing a spec for what a real SUV is.
You can call a raised minivan or a wagon, or a 5 door pickup truck, or a 4x4 hearse (suburban) an SUV, and it wouldn't be fake, because there is no definition for an SUV.

HMMWVs are not H2s. She said H2s. I was there, it was quite funny hearing about it. They pruned the brush on the trails because they didnt want to scratch their paint

There are SUVs that go off road, too. Damn you clowns are THICK!

I wasn't going to rip on anybody's precious car, but WTF, you deserve it. You can argue that a "True" sports car has only two seats. You can argue that it must have a manual tranny or have an open top. But one thing a true "Sports Car" is NOT, is front wheel drive. If you think your zippy little econobox does qualify as a "Sports Car", then by God those soccer moms are driving around in true SUVs as well!

Any Hummer 2 you see out there is going to be a brand new 50,000 dollar vehicle. I don't blame them for not wanting to scratch it all up right away. Give them a few years to get broken in and people will be riding them rough out in the brush. Probably the people that buy them second hand would be more likely the type to use it what it is made for. The people that are buying them new have no intention of taking them offroad.

 Wha'huh'what? Anyway:

I own a Trooper; both an SUV and a real 4x4 (low range transfer case, LSD rear diff, etc) and I laugh at all the wanna-be 4x4s out there today. They are glorified minivans, that's all. What is the point of getting an "SUV" if you don't even get a 4WD model? Oh, full-time AWD is not 4WD, people. :p

I take my truck off road; I get it dirty and I get it stuck (you ain't wheelin' if you ain't stuck! :p) I have a blast! I get sneered at by Bubba's in F350s with 24" lifts and 40 tires; however, I can fit places they can't and I have followed them thru places they never thought my truck would be able to deal with. :)

I like my truck a lot. Unfortunately, the aftermarket for Isuzu's in almost non-existent. And with the demise of the Trooper line (2002 was the last year), it's only going to get smaller.

My next vehicle will be a pickup. Most probably an F250 variant of some sort. (Solid front axle makes it a cinch to lift...IFS is a bitch when it comes to lifting!) The aftermarket for 4x4 parts for Amercian vehicles is 1,000,000 times bigger and cheaper than for foreign 4x4s.

The aftermarket has responded well though to the XTerra, I must admit that...but I'm not crazy about the XTerra.

Anyway, that's my two-cents.

Remember the 'SUV drivers support terrorism!' thingie? Etc, etc... :p
